Carrickmacross Club Notes

By Mary McEneaney Fri 26th May

Well Represented! The Emmet’s club were well-represented at the weekend when ten players were involved with the various county teams. In Ulster Senior Football Championship at Clones; Monaghan beat Fermanagh; Aaron Lynch and Stephen Gollogly can look forward to the next round of the Ulster Championship against Cavan in two weeks’ time. In the Ulster Minor Championship against Fermanagh Karl McMenamin and Tadgh Callaghan wore the county colours; with Karl having an outstanding game in the number six and the best of luck to them in the next round. Meanwhile Paddy Bermingham and Jamie Guinan togged out with the County Hurlers in the Nicky Rackard cup semi-final at Inniskeen and both players accredited themselves well against tough opposition. Finally; in the Buncrana Cup Jack McGeown captained the Monaghan squad in their double victory on Saturday with Andrew Moore, Donnach Swinburne and Larry McCluskey making up our four representatives.

Reserve League! Round five of the competition brought Monaghan Harps to Carrickmacross and Emmet Park. Harps travelled without the full complement of players which left the game thirteen-a-side and in the end it was a very one-sided match. The Emmets scored a total of 2-20 while the visitors managed 0-07. A strong first-half performance from the home side was the dominant factor and by the break; the score read Emmets 1-11 Harps 0-01. Emmets continued where they left off and added another 1-09 while the Harps improved their scoring ratio with six-points in the second moiety! Sean Downey was the ace marksman with both Emmet goals and he also included seven points to his credit.  Team: John McMenamin; Gearoid Jones; Aaron Murray; Ronan O’Callaghan; Cáolin Martin (0-01) Fergal McDermott (0-01)  David Eakin; Ciaran Ward (0-01) Fergal Lonergan (0-02) Ryan O’Connor (0-01) Padraig Marron (0-01) Jack Ogle (0-05) Sean Downey (2-07) Subs; Adrian McCluskey, Glen Reilly, Ryan Carolan, Mark Downey, Darragh Marron, Ronan Gollogly (0-01) Oran Marron, Pauric Rafferty and Pauric Keenen.

Under Fourteen! Round six of the division one football league saw the Emmets come away from Castleblayney on Saturday with their handiest win of the competition to date. It was never a real contest and with seven goals and over twenty points on the scoreboard the conclusion was well reached before the final whistle. The forwards did their business and the defence coped well with any situation that came their way in this comprehensive victory.

Club Fixtures! On Friday evening the Intermediate team get back into action for the long haul to Emyvale in round six of the League competition; the match will commence at 8-00pm; when hopefully the travelling Emmet supporters will see the team return to winning ways.
