On the field
It was another week of mixed results for our teams representing the club. Our minors who are amalgamated with Eire Og got off to a winning start in Smithboro with a victory over Tyholland. It was great to see the players from both clubs gel together as a team and credit must go the management team of Raymond Leonard and Sean Greenan who are working hard on the sideline. The next outing for the minors is against Clontibret, however we had no result when going to print. Our U14’s got back to winning ways with a comfortable victory over Sean Mc Dermotts, unfortunately the U16’s fixture against the same opposition had to be stopped due to an injury picked up by one of the Sean’s players. Thankfully the player in question has made a full recovery after been removed to hospital and credit must go to the officials and those that administered first aid on the pitch. It is never a situation you want to see on any field of play and credit also to the teams and management on how it was dealt with. The senior team had their first outing in the Junior league with a trip away to Scotshouse to take on Currin. Short a number of our regular players, it was a performance that provided plenty of food for thought and while coming out on the wrong side of a 2 point defeat it was heartening to see a number of our younger players make their senior debut. Our seniors were back out in action last night Wednesday against Sean Mc Dermotts.
Upcoming Fixtures
It is another busy weekend and indeed few days of fixtures, tonight Thursday 13th, Castleblayney will be the visitors to Pairc Mhuire at 7pm to take on our U16’s , while on Saturday the U12’s make the trip to Scotshouse to take on Currin at 2pm, on Saturday evening the senior side make the trip to Smithboro to take on Eire Og at 7pm, while that same venue will see our minors in action on Tuesday 18th when they take on Patrick Emmetts also at 7pm. As always your support at any of the fixtures for the teams is greatly appreciated.
Lidl Ladies National league
Well done to the Monaghan ladies who secured their status in Division 1 of the Lidl ladies league for 2018 with a 3-11 to 2-11 win over Armagh in their relegation playoff on Sunday past in the Athletic grounds. It was a result that sees the farney ladies make it a 26th consecutive year in the top flight, an incredible achievement for any county. Next up for Paula Cunningham and her side is the Ulster championship where they will get the defence of their title underway with a derby game against Cavan on June 17th.
