President Micheál D. Ó hUiginn was present in The Carton House Hotel in Maynooth on Saturday night to present the annual Glór na nGael awards.
A prizefund totalling €80,000 was awarded to Irish Language community groups, GAA clubs and 3rd level societies in recognition of their achievements in Language promotion and revival. Special guests representing funders and partner organisations were also present at the event including Foras na Gaeilge and Údarás na Gaeltachta.
Killevan Sarsfields G.F.C were named as the top club in Ulster for Irish Language Development for the second year running and took home a cheque for €500, seeing off competition from clubs all over Ulster both in and outside of the Gaeltacht. Having registered with Glór na nGael’s Joe McDonagh Foundation for developing the use and learning of Irish within GAA clubs since the scheme’s conception, Killevan Sarsfields have been frontrunners in their dedication and innovation as regards developing Irish as a spoken language on the playing field, at club social events and throughout the locality.
The club is committed to strengthening the use and learning of Irish within the club and their work as part of the Joe McDonagh foundation continues, they have many more exciting projects and initiatives planned and welcome co-operation and enquiries from other Monaghan clubs.
