Minor League Match!

The minor team had their second game in the league in Emmet Park against a good Aughnamullen fifteen. After the early exchanges it was pretty even and with ten minutes played it was 0-02 to 0-02. The visitors hit treble points from play which took us to half time (Emmets 0-04 Aughnamullen 0-11) The second half commenced with a couple testers for the opposition goalkeeper and the Emmets produced their best play in the next period but a few scoring options did’t work out. The visitors having got over the Emmets spell of dominance ultimately pulled clear with two late goals which contributed to the final score of 2-15 to 1-09 Team; Robbie McCluskey; Rowan McMahon; Patrick Bermingham; Eoin Brady; Cathal O’Rourke; Tiernan McCourt; Cormac O’Hanlon; Jack Gillick; Karl McMenamin; Oisin Wilcoc; Andrew Moore; Killian Gartland; Eoghan Duffy; Thaig Callaghan; Dylan Ward: Subs: Jack McGeown; Cathal McEneaney; Breffni Henry; Aaron Kearney; Rhesa Irawan:

Under-Sixteen League! The Emmets met Doohamlet on the new grounds on the Donaghmoyne Road in their second game in the division 3 league campaign. It was pretty even in the first quarter with both teams attacking alternatively and both getting early goals but towards the end of the second quarter Doohamlet stretched the lead with another goal. However the Emmets never let them out of their sight and a late rally brought the game to a minimum. With the half time score standing at Carrickmacross 2-05 Doohamlet 2-06. Emmets took some nice scores but some nice moves broke down at critical stages. It was a fighting display by the Emmets and they never gave up the chase but unfortunately they conceded a late goal to leave the final outcome Emmets 3-12 Doohamlet 5-12.

Under-Sixteen League! Five of the High School (Emmets) returned home from participating in an Ulster Schools semi-final to play for the club against St Patrick’s in the league division one. The amalgamated team arrived at Emmet Park and could only muster thirteen players which meant restructuring the team to suit the needs! It was straight down to business for the home side who rattled off four-points in ten minutes before St Patrick’s opened their account with two points from play. Larry McCluskey paved his way through the opposition and picked his spot to the corner of the visitors net. By half time it stood Emmets 1-08 St Patrick’s 0-04. Another flying start to the second half saw the lead stretched to ten points but the combination team kept playing with heart and were rewarded with a nice point. However the game ended with the final score of Emmets 2-15 St Patrick’s 1-06. Brock Cup Final! Congratulations to Patrician High School on reaching the “Brock Cup” final when they defeated a fancied Maghera on Friday afternoon to take their place in the decider against St Colman’s Newry. This Danske Bank Brock Cup semi-final reached fever pitch in the 54th minute when a long ball into the Carrickmacross area was dispatched to the net. This tied the teams on 1-11 each and set up a thrilling final few minutes. Early exchanges were evenly contested until a sweeping Patrician move finished with Donnacha Swinburne (Emmets) firing to the net in the 16th minute for a 1-03 to 0-02 lead. Swinburne also contributed three-points during that opening half for Carrickmacross to turn over 1-07 to 0-05 ahead at the break. Once again during the first twenty minutes of the second half, Maghera looked to have stepped up a gear but it was the Carrickmacross scholars who prevailed and when the sums were done it was Patrician High Carrickmacross 2-12 St Patrick’s Maghera 1-12. The other Emmet players involved in the game were Jack McGeown, Andrew Moore and Conor Capaldi with Michael Maguire waiting in the wings for his chance.
