Reserve Championship: Blackhill’s reserve side were unsure in the lead up to the match as to whether or not they would be able to field a team having lost a few boys through injury and holidays. However, having heard the call, the troops assembled including some faces we haven’t seen too much of lately – Peter Daly, Craig Martin and there must have been two machines left unmanned in the Aughnafarcon area when Mark Courtney and Vincent Mc Nally landed! As it was Blackhill formed a team that was going to be hard to beat. The first half was a tight affair with both sides swapping points and the lead regularly, eventually the break coming with the opposition, Donaghmoyne, leading 6-5. Nearing the end of the game, Donaghmoyne had stretched their lead thanks in part to the free taking of Aaron Courtney who interestingly was playing directly against his big brother Ciaran. However a long range beauty from Peter Daly and a blasted goal from Stephen Courtney took Blackhill right back into the game. After 60 minutes, it was D,moyne 13 points Blackhill 1-10 with Extra time to come. Blackhill got off to the worst possible start conceding 2 goals in the first period of ten minutes. But once again this side showed their resilience and worked themselves back into the contest. They just were not able to find the goal they needed in the last minute. Final score D,moyne 2-15 Blackhill 1-16. Team: S Buckley, M McArdle, T Courtney, T Forde, G McArdle, S Courtney, R Craig, H Byrne, C Courtney, S Courtney, P Murphy, A Burns, C Martin, M Woods, V, Mc Nally, M Courtney, P Daly.
