C.L.G. SEAN MAC DIARMADA
Club Presentations:
On Saturday night last the Reserve League Championship medals were presented to the winning Seans team. A Club veteran , Seamus Mulligan, was on hand to present the awards. Others acknowledged on the night were Danny Clerkin and Ciaran Murphy as the management team from 2016 and newly weds Patrick and Celine Kieran. However the annual Player of the year award was the highlight of the night. This award , the McEntee Trophy, is given to the player who has been selected by his fellow team mates as the outstanding player for 2016. This years winner was Niall Kearns. A worthy accolade for a great performer in 2016.
Reserve Football League:
Round two of the league and Doohamlet were the opponents in Threemilehouse on Saturday evening. Both sides showed full commitment from the throw in and with the early exchanges it was point for point. By half time the home side had manufactured a two point lead however the second half became scrappy with both sides cancelling each other out in the final third of the field. The Seans managed to preserve a three point lead coming into the final moments but in a split second a wily old veteran for Doohamlet , Shane Mc Manus, got the slightest of touches to score an equalising goal. A draw was to be the final outcome and an air of disappointment descended amongst the home team as they exited the park. Much done and more to do.
U14 League
The U14 squad had their first away fixture of the league against Eire Og on Saturday. This was a great game from the off with the Seans moving the ball through the hands and picking off some nice scores. It was solid performances all round from the Goalkeeper to the full forward. The players were baked in the Spring sunshine but the heat didn’t deter them. They stuck to their task and closed out the game to win by nine points. Well done to all the players and mentors with a great win to start the season
