Race night: We are looking forward to hosting our 2017 race night in the clubhouse this Friday (March 24). The clubhouse will be open from 8.30pm and the race night is due to get underway at 9.30 after Ireland’s World Cup qualifier against Wales. There will be a draw on the night for all horse owners, with two Allianz Football League Final tickets up for grabs, and another for the sponsors, with a prize of a €250 voucher for the Radisson Blu, Cavan; as well as a raffle for a range of spot prizes. Thanks to everyone who has supported this fundraiser so far and we ask all sections of the club to get involved for what promises to be a great night!
St. Patrick’s Day: The weather didn’t dampen spirits for the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations last Friday. Well done to our juveniles and their mentors for wearing the club colours in the town parade, as seen on RTÉ’s St. Patrick’s Day coverage! Thanks to everyone who joined us in the clubhouse. to all club members for their support, the young musicians who played and everyone who brought food along.
Reserves: We had a good win at home to Rockcorry in the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Division 2B last Saturday. We trailed by 1-3 to 0-4 at the end of an evenly-matched first half, but we pulled away after the restart, with several players on the scoresheet, including goals from Ruairí Forde, Niall Greenan and Jamie Shields, as we ran out winners by 3-13 to 1-4.

Minors: The Minor Football League begins next Tuesday with a home game against Emyvale at 6.30pm. Good luck to the team and to the management of Eugene McGinnity, Paudge Connolly and Nicholas Scott.
U-12s: Our two Under-12 football teams started their Spring League campaigns with wins at home to Clontibret last Saturday. First up was the Zone C game, where efforts by Fionán Ó Gallchóir, Eoin O’Hanlon and Senan Cudden had our lads up by six scores to three at half-time. Fionán, Oisín Reilly and Seán Callan were our scorers in the second half as the Harps ran out winners by 13 scores to six.

The Zone D opener was next up. Oisín Treanor and Dara Mullen were among our scorers in an evenly-matched first half. An improved performance in the final 20 minutes saw the Harps pull away, with Eoin Sheridan, James Gunn and Dara Mullen kicking some fine scores.

U-14: The next games for both of our Under-14 football teams are at home to Carrickmacross: scheduled for this Saturday, but due to be postponed to a week later. Check online for confirmation.
U-16: The Under-16 Football League begins next Thursday (March 30) with a home game against Scotstown.
Membership: Registration fees of €20 for 2017 can now be paid to club registrar Kevin Treanor or in the clubhouse. All players and members must be paid up by the end of March. The deadline is fast approaching, so members are asked to register as soon as possible. Members can now avail of the GAA’s new ‘GRMA’ scheme, with access to exclusive discounts and special offers. Dates to remember: The Senior Football League is scheduled to start on Saturday, April 8 (away to Killanny). Provisional fixtures for 2017 are available on our website. Our annual Cake Sale is set for Saturday, April 29, while our Saturday-morning coaching for juveniles will also kick off next month. We will be participating and hosting at Féile Peil na nÓg 2017 (June 23-25), a week after our juvenile street collection. Darkness into Light 2017 will take place in the early hours of Saturday, May 6. Keep an eye on club notes for more details on these events.
Coaching: There are several upcoming coaching courses/workshops. These include a Skill Development Workshop for U-14/U-16 coaches scheduled for our own grounds next Monday, March 27. Check the Monaghan GAA website and contact Pádraig Callan if you wish to attend any. Keep an eye out for details about a possible upcoming Child Protection course.
Pitch bookings: All pitch bookings for 2017 for training or matches must be made via 086 1957155. Training slots have been allocated and any changes must be notified in advance. All co-operation from team mentors in maintaining the pitches is appreciated.
County: Well done to Neil McAdam and the Monaghan team on their Allianz NFL win against Roscommon and good luck against Donegal in Ballyshannon on Sunday. Well done also to our young musicians who entertained the crowd in Inniskeen last Sunday.

Handball: The successful run finally came to an end for Tiarnán, Konrad and Justas when they lost to the mighty Kilkenny in the All-Ireland U-14 and U-16 finals last week. It was a proud moment for Monaghan Handball to have three players in the finals. Thanks to their coaches, parents and supporters who turned up in Kingscourt.
