Monaghan GAA Coaching & Games have a number of initiatives currently ongoing in relation to Hurling in the county. We have had a positive uptake on our Hurling After-Schools Programme, delivered a successful Hurling Foundation Coaching Award, initiated our Hurling Development Squad programme for the year and also we have a number of upcoming workshops to assist coaches over the next few weeks.

 

Hurling After-Schools Programme

 

Monaghan GAA delivered an Hurling After-Schools Programme in both the North and South regions of the county. These programmes were delivered in both St. Macartan’s College and Patrician High School. We had 54 boys taking part in the programme between the two regions with the following schools being represented:

 

Scoil Mhuire Clontibret; Monaghan BNS; Gaelscoil Ultain; Edenmore; Castleblayney BNS; Carrickmacross BNS; Gaelscoil Rois & Mullaghrafferty.

 

 

Participants from this programme are due to play at the half-time game at the NFL Match between Monaghan and Roscommon in Inniskeen on the 19th March.

 

Coach Education & Development

Monaghan GAA also delivered a Hurling Foundation Coaching Award in Cloghan on the 21st January. This course was delivered by Pauric Dowdall (Ulster GAA Regional Hurling Development Officer) and Aidan Morgan (Monaghan GAA Hurling Games Promotion Officer).

We had representatives from the following clubs taking part in this course: Castleblayney Faughs, Clontibret, Carrick Emmets & Monaghan Harps.

Coaching Workshop

There is also a interactive coaching workshop due to be delivered in Cloghan on the 20th March from 7.30pm to 9pm. This workshop will focus on coaching through games and working with children. This workshop will be delivered by Aidan Morgan, Monaghan GAA Hurling Games Promotion Officer.

 

Celtic Challenge & Development Squads

The Monaghan U17 Celtic Challenge squad had their first training of the year on the 5th March. They are due to play their first game in the Celtic Challenge on the 3rd May in Cloghan V Louth.

The U14 Development Squad will be commencing training shortly also in preparation for the upcoming Ulster and National Blitzes. They are due to start training on Sunday April 2nd in Cloghan, with their first game due to take place on the 29th April.

Liam McCarthy Cup – Visit to Cloghan

 

The Liam McCarthy Cup will be making a visit to the Monaghan GAA Training Centre, Cloghan on Tuesday 4th April at 7.30pm. There will be an opportunity to have pictures taken with the cup and  we also will have a special guest in attendance.

 

Primary Schools Coaching

 

Aidan Morgan is currently delivering coaching as part of the Primary Schools Programme for Term 4 in the following schools:

  • Blackstaff Primary School
  • Gaelscoil Lorgan
  • Castleblayney Girls Primary School
