By Mary McEneaney Thu 23rd Mar

Foundations Programme! Carrickmacross Emmets, Under 14, Under16 and Under18 squad players and their parents were at the launch on Monday night at 7.30pm in Inver College. The Key Speaker was Chris McNicholl Sports Physiotherapist. There was also a good turnout of club coaches and senior players for the commencement of the Programme” which is designed to improve the physical development of young Gaelic footballers aspiring to improve their performance and reduce injury frequency. Every player will be assessed and scored at the start and at the end of the programme to examine its effectiveness. Eugene O’Hanlon and Declan Finnegan and Pat Egan are central figures from a club perspective as they are heavily involved in advancing this venture forward; the intent is to build teams for the impending years with an outlook to developing players who will hopefully bring success and a high level of achievement.

The Club Lotto!  The club lotto draw took place this Monday night in the Emmet Centre for a Jackpot of €10,000. The numbers drawn were 03, 09, 21 and 28; there were no matching numbers so this week’s jackpot is €10,100. There are three ways of doing the lotto (a) buy weekly (b) subscribe yearly (c) or play on-line via the Emmets website: First out of the “lucky dip” was Derek Tumelty for a €50 “Keep it Local” voucher; John Fitzgerald won a €20 voucher while Dympna Finnegan also got a €20 voucher; Morgan Sweeney was pulled out for a €10 voucher! Lotto envelopes are available at Birdy’s Newsagents; McMenamin Newsagents; Hughes’s Coffee Shop; McNally’s Tavern; Carrick Deli; Cassidy’s Filling Station (Ardee Road) Bits and Bobs and O’Rourke Fuels: Thanks to all the sellers for last week.

Emmets Handball! The A Team qualified for the final of the Monaghan GAA League by virtue of a hard-earned victory over a very determined Bawn side who were playing on home ground. This semi–final produced very exciting handball but in the end the Emmets secured victory by five games to three games! The team on duty was David McCarthy, Colm Kiernan, Gary Beirne and Jimmy McCahey. Emmets will meet Corduff in an all-parish final.

Fixtures/Results! It was quite weekend as far as games were club games were concerned with the Emmet under twelve team the only side in action. They hosted Scotstown in the Spring League (Round One) competition and were unfortunate to come out the wrong side of a 0-12 to 0-08 defeat on Saturday. On the fixture front the under fourteen teams play their second round of games on Saturday when they travel to Monaghan to do battle with the Harps. The division one side take the field at 2-00pm; while the division five side plays at 3-15, both teams won their first round games and both will hope to continue the good work. So will the Emmets Reserve side want to keep the momentum going after a sound opening game in Clones; but they have an equally long trip to Aghabog for a 5-00 pm start on Saturday evening when they will play the home team. Next Tuesday evening the minor competition commences for the Emmets in Killanny at 6-30 pm. This division one encounter always produces keen football so if you can make your way to the Killanny Park your support will be most welcome.

Safe Journey! Many Emmet supporters are making the trip to Donegal on Sunday to cheer on the county team in this crucial league division one game between these two reputable teams and we wish them all a safe round trip to Ballyshannon. Let’s hope the voyage is as successful as the jaunt to Killarney as we prepare to fight for a place in the National League final!
