Liathroid Laimhe: Ulster Juvenile Championships. It was a busy weekend of handball as 7 juveniles from the club represented the county in the Ulster Championship Finals in Kingscourt, first into Court 2 were the U12 girl Finalists of Aoibhinn Mc Cluskey and Emily Mc Ginnity from the Harps where they took on Bronagh Farley & Tara Curran of Tyrone, this was a tight affair from start to finish, the Tyrone girls took the first game 15-9 as our girls took their time to settle with some small errors, but they re-grouped and looked like taking it to a tie-breaker as they were serving 14-2 but were put out and as so often the case the serve in juvenile game proved vital as the Tyrone pair got in and won 15-14, but not all on “ace’s” as there were some great rallies in the game, but nerves also played a part in the performance, but well done girls, also in court 2 then stepped Emma Keenan partnered with Karolinja Kaklauskaite (Harps) where they took on Tyrone again in the shape of Bronagh McWilliams & Kerry McNamee in the U13 girls Doubles final, this was a tit for tat game as it went to a tie-breaker, our girls won the first in some style 15-4 and looked strong to take the title but Tyrone battled back and took the 2nd game 15-8 to send it into winner takes all 3rd game, having the serve first our girls started well and went into an early lead but again Tyrone came back forcing the serve to be lost back and forward time and time again but our girls lost 15-12, again nerves played a part in the game as some shots that would be guaranteed just didn’t work out on the day, then a change of court also changed the luck as Doubles Sarah Lavery & Eithne Boyle playing in the U14 final defeated a Cavan pair of Georgia Fox & Shanese Meegan, our girls were never under pressure as there asserted their presents from day one and took the first game 15-1, the 2nd game Cavan came back a bit in the 2nd but were not near strong enough and Eithne & Sarah won the game and title 15-7, well done girls, shortly after that the U15 Boys Final took place where Ronan Boyle & Ryan Harnet took on Cavan boys Darrel McGurren & Niall McMahon, the Cavan boys were a very strong physical pair and proved so as Ronan & Ryan found it hard to live with their power as they lost the game 2 straight 15-9, 15-1, starting of shaky they came well back into the first game and looked to be causing the Cavan men some problems but still wasn’t to be, but well done boys, I hope to get photo’s in over the few weeks, well done to all other county winners on the day from the Harps Club.
