Charity match: We were delighted to present a cheque for €2,565 to be divided between the local Men’s Shed and Neighbourhood Youth Project groups from our New Year’s Day charity match. Members of the Monaghan Men’s Shed were in attendance at our clubhouse last Sunday night, with Peter Clerkin speaking on their behalf. He outlined the work done by the local group, which is one of more than 100 nationwide, who provide an outlet for men to meet with the aim of supporting the physical and mental health and wellbeing of its members. Paul Smyth attended along with some young members of the NYP group, which is based at the Foróige Office on the Glen Road. Paul thanked everyone for the welcome funding and spoke about some of the projects they run, which help to provide a positive outlet for local young people. Owen Connell from the organising committee welcomed all our guests and emphasised the importance of our long-running charity match to the club and community. Well done to Owen, Mary White and all involved and thanks to everyone for their support. We would also like to acknowledge everyone who sponsored spot prizes for the raffle on the night of the game: McCaughey’s Bar; Dolan’s Pharmacy; Topaz, Monaghan; The Four Seasons Leisure Club and Gym; Sam’s Bridge Service Station; McCleary’s Londis; Cheveux Hair Studio; Ronaghan’s Pharmacy; Eastern Balti; Monaghan Arch Club; the O’Connell family; the Smith family and the Sherry family of Daithí’s Wish to Walk.
