Bank of Ireland Dr. Mc Kenna Cup Section B
Monaghan 1-13 Fermanagh 0-15 8/1/17
Monaghan started their Dr. Mc Kenna Cup campaign with a one-point win over Fermanagh in Clones on Sunday. The first score of the game – a goal by debutant David McAlister – proved decisive as Monaghan held off a determined challenge from their neighbours and future championship opponents. Four players made their senior debuts for Monaghan, with McAlister being joined by Micheál Bannigan, who scored three first-half points, James Mealiff and substitute Stephen Finnegan. Monaghan led by 1-8 to 0-8 at half-time and despite Man of the Match Tomás Corrigan kicking nine frees for Fermanagh, the hosts held on by the narrowest of margins.
