ROCKCORRY GAA
CLUB NOTES
15th November 2016
Deepest Sympathy
Firstly, on behalf of everyone at the Rockcorry GAA club I want to extend our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to members of the McCaul family on the sudden passing of Philip McCaul (Drumcall). Philip was one of those intriguing characters that had a true presence. For
many years he was a great supporter of the club and was our very first elected Lord Mayor back in 1981. His presence will be sorely missed by his loving family and the wider community. May his gentle soul rest in peace. Ar dheis Dé go Raibh a Anam
Juvenile Presentation Night
Our juvenile presentation night was held in St. Mary’s Hall last Sunday 13th November and it was yet another wonderful occasion. All silverware won last year was on display including the Mick Duffy Cup that Scotstown GAA won last year. Our youth officer, Sharon Fox, addressed the huge crowd and complimented all players who represented the club last year and congratulated those who were lucky enough to win a trophy. She highlighted our current fund raising project entitled ‘Wall of Fame’ and looked forward to receiving support from all the families and talked about the upcoming Annual General Meeting and appealed to people to get involved and help out on a juvenile sub-committee. She commented on the cost to run the underage section of the club and stressed that the club plans to introduce additional fund-raising measures in the new year. On the subject of Feile she emphasised that the club will be playing their part which will give our under 14 players an opportunity to compete in a National Competition. She emphasised the importance of fun and enjoyment of playing the game and reiterated the important role of parents and thanked them for their continued support and encouragement. She highlighted that 2016 was a busy year for the club and our juvenile teams and she paid tribute to all the wonderful coaches and team mentors who put in a great effort and time throughout the year and without their dedication we would not be able to provide games for the kids. Special guests on the night was Scotstown GAA players Damien McArdle and County Monaghan star Rory Beggan who along with our very own team captain Mark Daly and Anthony Tate made presentations to our underage players and on behalf of the club many thanks to the lads who posed for photographs with the kids. Lots of photographs were taken so please log onto www.rockcorrygaa.ie or our Facebook page to view a selection photographs. Finally, I would like to say a massive well done to all the kids and we hope you continue to work hard and enjoy your time playing with the club during the year ahead.
Annual General Meeting
Our upcoming Annual General Meeting will take place on Sunday 27th November in the dressing-rooms at 4pm. The annual general meeting is the most important meeting of the year and ALL club members, parents, supporters and potential new members are invited and encouraged to attend in order to reflect on the last twelve months and to look ahead for the upcoming year. It is very important to get new faces, new blood, new perspectives and new ideas within the club to ensure that we can provide the very best of everything for the kids. So if you have any suggestions please bring them along to the AGM where we can all discuss them in a dignified and respectful manner. Nomination forms will be circulated to all club members during the next week and should be returned to club secretary Martina McKeown before the required date. This is your club and you are always welcome.
Outstanding Money
With the Annual General Meeting approaching our treasurer is busy preparing and finalising our accounts so it is absolutely vital that all outstanding money owed to the club is handled in to club treasurer, Tina Rooney, as soon as possible to facilitate this end of year process.
Charity Walk / Run
Family members and friends of the late Margaret Reilly are holding a 5K Memorial walk / fun run. It takes place on Sunday 4th December at 11am at Haltons, Cootehill. All proceeds raised will go directly towards the Cootehill Cancer Care Group. Everyone is welcome so please spread the word with your family and friends to ensure as many people support this event. Thank You.
Tractor Run
I imagine there will be plenty of big shiny new tractors around the village this Sunday afternoon because the Rockcorry Community Childcare Service are holding a Tractor Run. All makes, model, sizes and ages are welcome to join the leisurely stroll around the village and surrounding areas. Please meet up at the Rockcorry GAA carpark and it costs €20 per vehicle. A cup of Tea plus other lovely refreshments will be served afterwards in the Rockcorry Childcare Centre.
Senior Citizen Sponsored Walk
Are you ready boots…let’s start walkin! Yes folks, it’s that time of year once again when people get on their walking boots to raise money for the popular Senior Citizen’s Christmas Party. The Rockcorry Dartrey Community Alert committee have sponsorship cards now in circulation and I would urge everyone within the parish and surrounding communities to support this event which takes place on Saturday 26th November. If you are interested in joining the walk and would like to help raise some money you can obtain a sponsorship card from Gerry Coyle or Pat McCormick. The walk promises to be a great day for all the family but if anyone who cannot do the walk but would like to make a donation then please get in touch. As they always say….every little helps.
