Paul Finlay has announced his retirement from inter-county football after 14 years in the Monaghan jersey at senior level. The Ballybay man was a stylish presence in the Monaghan team since immediately establishing himself in the team in 2003 and he was a prolific marksman, amassing a record total of 5-544 in 168 appearances, including 151 points in 48 SFC games. Finlay top-scored as Monaghan won the All-Ireland Vocational Schools’ title in 2001 and although silverware proved elusive for much of his time in the county jersey, he won two Ulster SFC medals in latter years (2013 and 2015) to follow in the footsteps of his late father Kieran, who will always be remembered for his outstanding performance in the 1979 provincial final. His other honours include three National Football League divisional titles, interprovincial and Sigerson Cup success with Ulster and IT Sligo and captaining Ballybay to the Monaghan SFC in 2012. Monaghan GAA thanks Paul for his service to the county.
