Over the last number of days Monaghan Coaching & Games staff have been very busy running a number of Primary School Go Games blitzes in football & hurling. The football GoGames was aimed at 5th/6th class pupils while our hurling blitz was aimed at 3rd & 4th class.
Over the two days in football 26 schools attended the football Go Games blitz on Tuesday the 18th and Wednesday the 19th October. From the 26 schools that entered, there where 40 teams playing Gaelic football spread across a boys, girls and mixed sections. Each team got to play 3 / 4 games each. The blitz ran in similar fashion to the club Go Games programme with 3 periods in each match & the middle period designated for the kids to use their non-dominant foot and hopefully kids can take this back to their clubs and schools and use it on a more regular basis.
Monaghan coaching & games would like to thank the schools for coming to Cloghan and taking part in the blitz. The blitz was emphasised on fun and participation so we hope the kids left with a smile on their faces and further developed their skills. We would also like to thank the teachers & helpers for each school during the week, without you the blitz wouldn’t be able to go ahead. Finally we would like to thank the 10 referees from St Macartan’s College Monaghan who help officiate over the two days.
The hurling blitz was held on Thursday the 20th October from 11am – 1pm. Overall 9 teams took part in the blitz with over 120 kids taking part. There was some great skills on show throughout the day and a few Henry Shefflins on show. We would like to thank the schools: Castleblayney Boys, Carrickmacross Boys, Latnamard, Annyalla & St Mary’s Clontibret. We would also like to thank the teachers and helpers who came along to the blitz. Finally, we would like to thank the referees who came up from St Macartan’s College to officiate on the day.
