Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship Semi-Final
Seán McDermotts 2-18 Clones 2-12 25/9/16
Seán McDermotts went through to the JFC Final for the first time since 1990 after a well-deserved win over Clones in Scotstown. Damien Larkin, James Treanor and Niall Kearns were to the fore as the Seáns raced into a 0-10 to 0-3 lead, but Clones got a lifeline towards the end of the first half, as Christopher Cadden made a brilliant save to deny Larkin, before Darragh Holland hit the opening goal at the other end. That left Clones within four at half-time (0-11 to 1-4), but they had substitute James Mealiff sent off three minutes into the second half and although a string of scores from Adrian Alford closed the gap further, goals by Larkin and Seáns sub Mark Keogh killed the game off. Alford fired a free to the net deep into added time, but the Seáns still had six points to spare in the end.

Blackhill 2-14 Toome 2-12 (AET) 30/9/16
Blackhill will be in the JFC Final for the fourth year in a row after a dramatic win over Toome in extra-time under Inniskeen’s lights last Friday night. Both teams conceded soft goals in the first half; Toome striking first via Mattie O’Reilly and Blackhill responding through Darren Woods. Blackhill were 1-4 to 1-3 up at half-time and they were deservedly four clear seven minutes from time, but a great goal from the lively James Wilson helped Toome rally to edge ahead. Andrew Burns came off the bench to rescue Blackhill with a point from a ’45 at the death that saw them finish level at 2-9 to 1-12 and he added a goal in extra-time, which saw his side hold out to advance to this Sunday’s final.
