Cluiche Ceannais/Shield Final

Sáirséalaigh Naomh Tiarnach 4.13 V 4.07 Dubh Thamlacht. Shield final Thursday September 1stin Clontibret. Comhghairdeas achan duine. Congratulations to all the lads and their management team.

This was a very exciting game in rain swept conditions, however the standard of passing and football was top class. St.Tiernach Sarsfields on a few occasions stormed into a strong lead however a determined Doohamlet team fought back to the bitter end. St Tiernach Sarsfields opened their account first with a great score from Jamie Mc Quillan, Doohamlet levelled matters but The Sarsfields continued to set the pace during the first half with further scores from Jamie Mc Quillan Alan Curley and a goal from Kevin O Reilly with 2 late scores from Rian Kierans to leave the half time score St Tiernach Sarsfields 1-9 Doohamlet 1-2 St Tiernach Sarsfields continued to dominate the exchanges in the 2nd half opening up an 11 point difference through Kevin O’Reilly and an excellently taken goal by captain Evin Quigley. A similar move between Alan Curley and Evin Quigley a few minutes previously had ended in the ball rebounding off the crossbar . Doohamlet again pulled themselves back into the contest scoring a goal to leave 8 between the teams but an excellently taken score by Matthew Monaghan gave the Sarsfields some breathing space. However Doohamlet failed to give up the fight and scored the next 1-2 to narrow the deficit to 4 points. Excellent defending from Conal Smith alongside Simon O Connell in the fullback line went along way to impacting on the final score being ably supported in the half back line by Aiden Doherty and Kevin Coogan. Their work rate and the tenacity of their tackling was excellent to watch. Jamie Scotts excellent kick outs found the dominant and brilliant Rian Kierans and Evin Quigley who were on top in the midfield area and some excellent attacking play saw The Sarsfields stretch into an 8 point lead through another brilliant goal by Evin Quigley very similar to his previous finish, and a point by Rian Kierans. Doohamlet got it back to 4 again, however Alan Curley was now finding the space to run at the Doohamlet defence and lay off the ball which led to 3 scores for the Sarsfields .Doohamlet finished the scoring proceedings with 3 points however StTiernach Sarsfields had weathered the storm and ended up with a deserving 6 point victory. Team and Scores Jamie Scott, Simon O Connell, Kevin Coogan, Conall Smith, Aiden Doherty, Rian Kierans (0-4) Evin Quigley (2-1), Alan Curley (0-3) Kevin O’ Reilly(1-1) Jamie Mc Quillan (1-4) Matthew Monaghan (0-1).
