Grattan’s Óige by Mickey Kindlon: Juniors, U8s & U10s: Training as usual. U12s: We played Drumhowan in the cup semi-final last Tuesday evening in Inniskeen. The team found it hard to get to the pace of the game in the first half. We were unlucky with some shots at goal from Michael Kindlon and Darragh Needham that were saved, it could have been closer at half time. Half time inniskeen 0-3 Drumhowan 3-7. In the second half the team came out with a different attitude and the defence of Aaron Hughes, Sarah McHugh, Brendan Burns, Daniel McKeown, Conor McHugh and James Meegan got on top. Colm McNulty as usual was super in goals with some fantastic saves. Kyle Quinn Dylan McConnell & Kyle Martin worked extremely hard around the middle of the field and created some great scores. Our inside forward line Michael Kindlon, Conor jones and Lorcan Monahan Darragh Needham contributed to winning the second half but unfortunately couldn’t make up the deficit of the first half. Final score Inniskeen 1-10 Drumhowan 4-12. We would like to thank all players and parents for your great effort all year. U14s: Training as usual for the division 1 shield final. The shield final is on Sunday 4th September at 2:00pm. Venue to be confirmed, U16s: We played in the division 1 shield final last Thursday evening in Killanny. After a very rocky start in the first 15 minutes the team were trailing by 8 points, this was understandable due to the loss of Jarlath McGahon to illness just 24 hours before throw in. With some changes to the team Christopher Hanratty went to full back too close down our defence and help the younger defenders alongside him. Following the move, we started to get to grip in midfield and some good balls was supplied to Andrew Woods in the full forward line. Half time Inniskeen 0-9 Carrickmacross 2-6 in the second half Inniskeen again took control of midfield and Andrew woods again was causing havoc to the Carrick defence. With 15 minutes to go Inniskeen were leading by 1 point from a Sean Jones goal. At this stage Carrick were really on the ropes. An accidental collision lead to Sean Jones having to come off with an injury. This was the changing point of the game. The team continued to battle gamely but were unable to hold Carrick who ran out winners in the end. Final score Inniskeen 2-10 Carrickmacross 4-17. We would like to thank all players & parents for their support throughout the year. Our juvenile teams have done us proud.
