Gerry’s prepared Veg Under 12Div 3 League Colon Cup Final All roads lead to Blackhill last Saturday afternoon when our U12’s claimed their league title in a pulsating game of football against Drumhowan in the final, Under management of Brendan McNally Michael Morgan and Brendan Mooney this squad of 21 players started their journey back on the 29th of February and it took every bit of their planning and preparation to overcome a gallant Drumhowan team who up to the last 10 mins of the game there was only a single score between the sides. The game started at a hectic pace as both teams conceded early goals and thus pace continued right to the final whistle. Led by their talisman and Captain Stephen Mooney who contributed a personal tally of 3-079(4f’s). Cremartin took a hold of the game to go in at half time with a 3pt lead. It wasn’t all one way traffic as Drumhowan were in constant threat and only for some brave saves and heroic last ditch blocking tackles on numerous times by a resolute Cremartin defence kept the young shamrocks noses ahead. Cremartin continued to show their strength in depth of squad as they continued to drive forward showing no mercy to take the middle third of this game. The game continued into the final half and some fantastic football saw both side’s trade scores but the young Shamrocks battled for every ball every tackle and showed a fantastic resilience to find themselves in 5 point lead as time ticked into the last 8 mins. Then came the move of the match as a sweeping move from defence to attack saw a lay off by Stephen Mooney to Ben Morgan who slotted the goal to put the result in no doubt, this was a game that had everything but this is a squad that has everything. All 21 of them left nothing to chance and when the moment came … they were ready … they were up for it …. and they were capable , The management team would like to Thank our team sponsor Shortts Butchers , their medical team Maggs and Sandra and also Gerry and Noreen Carragher who sponsored a lovely winners meal after the game.
