Senior notes.
What a game of hurling in Aughnamullen last Sunday. This reply turned out to be a nail biting affair for both teams and went right down to the wire when Deaglan Crowe scored one of the best goals of his career when he volleyed a ground ball straight to the top of the Inniskeen net from 30 yards out. What a goal and what a time to score it.
The game started at an electric pace with brian mc guigan scoring two great points in a row from the left side. Inniskeen playing against the wind were holding thier own and it was tit for tat at two points each. Mark Treanor scored a great point followed by Fergal Rafter who finished the first half with two points each. Niall Garland was Mr. Accurate s oring 4 points in the first half. Inniskeen scored a good goal and Tony forde and Nathan Adaire both finished the first half with a point each. Aaron Kenny had a brillant game at half back and was pushing for man of the match with Mark Treanor. Blayney started without their star half back Stephen Forde due to injury however Stephen played through the pain barrier when he stepped into goals for the injured Paddy Collins who had to go off.
At half time the score was 0-12 to blayney and 1-2 to Inniskeen.
Blayney were now up against a very strong breeze and this showed in the first 15 minutes when inniskeen brought the match back to within one point. Ronan Meegan their target man scoring most of these from frees.
Mark Treanor and Jack Deasy stepped up their game and when Deasy was fouled Niall Garland took the quick short free and Treanor put it over the bar. Garland scored two more frees before Deaglan Crowe scored the all important goal that sealed it for Blayney. Garland and Mark Treanor putting over another point a poece to end the battle at 1-17 to 1-13.
I think the supporters would agree that this was another cracker.
Eoin Leonard never put one foot wrong and was strong at full back. Peter Treanor was excellent at centre back ablely assisted by Bernard Connor. Aaron Kenny and Brian Flanagan. Flanagan shinging up well at right corner back. The engine of Crowe and Treanor in the middle of the field was just too much for inniskeen. When Bernard Connor was dismissed for two yellows well into the second half Jim McHugh who started at full forward dropped back into his usual pocket and battened down the hatches.
This was a great Blayney display and showed that but for the way we were treated this year in the championship which left us playing with without our full squad we believe we would have won the Championship also. Well done to all concerned.
We have three matches left in the Tain ulster league to play.
