U-12

The well presented Aughnamullen pitch , coupled with a glorious summer’s evening was the perfect setting for the U-12 final v Cootehill. Haven been beaten by Cootehill in the opening match of the league by a single score Blayney were well aware of what was in store as they warmed up for the final. A good crowd of supporters were treated to one of the best juvenile hurling matches in Monaghan in a few years.
Blayney settled well and captain Thomas Hughes opened his account with the first attack . Blayney where to race into a four score lead all courtesy of Thomas , but Cootehill came roaring back and by half-time there was only a single score in it. The Blayney defence of Conor Burns , Stephen Mooney, Joe Carey and Ross Maguire had their hands full coping with a lively and skilful Cootehill attack. Jason and Thomas were holding their own in midfield and the forward line of Darragh, Nathan, Ultan and Bríon were beavering away but finding scores hard to get from a determined defence. The middle third gave Calum, the two Charlies, Kealan, Tom, Daniel, Liam, Canice, Timmy and Triston a chance to display their skills and they did so with great aplomb.
The third quarter saw the Blayney team at their best. Their skills and determination gave their supporters plenty to cheer about and scores from Nathan, Bríon, Darragh and Ultan coupled with a brace from Thomas soon had them well ahead. The introduction of Tom Carey and Triston also helped the balance of the team and when the full-time whistle sounded the delight of winning such a tough game was evident.
Thanks again to all the supporters whose vocal support was a great boost to these young players. The team were treated back in Blayney and as darkness fell the Blayney boys were proud of their success and keeping the Cup on the right side of the border.
U-16s :
The U-16s had a busy week a fortnight ago when they travelled to Thermafeckin outside Drogheda  for the third round of the U-16  league . The Blayney boys put up a great performance but just couldn’t get the better  of  a strong home team that won an All- Ireland Feile title . Then on Saturday they travelled to Fermanagh were they took part in the Shane Mulholland U-16 memorial tournament . Having beating East Cavan Gaels the boys qualified for the final against the home team Lisblaw  who were determined in the first year of this competition to win this cup and

Put in a very strong performance against a good Blayney side to win in the end . The Blayney lads must be congratulated on the way they played and how they represented the club on the day in this prestigious competition. Nest game for this group is against Maddock Rangers .
