Results: On Sunday morning last the senior team hosted Magheracloone in the Monaghan Credit Union. In difficult conditions with a strong gale blowing directly down the field Ballybay played against it for the first half. They battled hard working like tigers all over the field. The defence where on top throughout with strong displays all six men & with Paul Finlay on fire the middle of the park there was a solid platform for the team to build on. The McGuiness brothers where constantly out in front causing all sorts of trouble for the visitors defence while Sean McQuillan was putting in a man of the match display in the half forward line, tracking back & winning the dirty the ball for his teammates. The teams use of the ball throughout was great to watch and the early ball was allowing the forward to convert the opportunities to keep in touch of the Magheracloone despite the visitors having the wine. Half time score 0-6 apiece. The home side picked up where they left off after half time and opened a lead the scores coming through the McGuiness brothers and Paul though a combination of placed balls and efforts from play. Paul in particular showing his class around the middle, while McQuillan continued to put in a massive effort. Magheracloone to their credit battled hard and never gave up the cause. A goal for the visitors brought them right back into it after which they pushed on to take the lead entering the final stages. Ballybay where struggling to break out from the back and entering the final moments it looked like this game might get away from them but with the last attack of the game the home side broke out with serious pace and conviction with Shane McGuiness getting on the ball before he was brought down for a last minute penalty. Shane stood over the spot kick himself and with the weight of the town on his shoulders he expertially dispatched the ball to the back of the net to secure a tw point victory for the home side. Full time score Ballybay 1-14 Magheracloone 1-12. Ballybay team Sean Gorman, Evan Rutledge, Drew Wylie, Ryan Wylie, Colm Lennon, Mark McArdle, Brent Wylie, Dessie Ward, Paul Finlay, Shane McQuillan, Cillian McAviney, James Kerr, Shane McGuiness, Christopher McGuiness, Hugh Malone & Brian McCabe.

Speedy recovery: The club would like to wish senior player Ciaran Gallaghan a speedy recovery following his injury in the recent league match against Carrickmacross. It’s unlikely

that we’ll see Ciaran take the field of play again this year but we look forward to seeing him in action for the 2017 season.

Get well soon, the club would like to extend a speedy recovery to the clubs caretaker Brendan Macklin who was in hospital recently. We look forward to seeing you back on your feet soon Brendan.

Best wishes to the Ballybay Pearse Brothers contingent of Colin Malone, Joe Sullivan, Tom Keenan & Darren Smyth who are members of the county over 40’s panel. The team had a great victory over Antrim last week and face up to the old enemy Tyrone tonight. Unfortunately, at the time of writing time and venue had yet to be confirmed.

Keep the date: The towns annual festival Ballybay Octoberfest takes place this weekend kicking off on Friday evening, with street entertainment & cultural events taking place all over the weekend, not to mention each public house having some form of live music at some stage over the weekend & a number of our German friends making the journey over. Please come out and support the local businesses of the area.

Bingo: Just a quick note to remind everyone that the club’s weekly Bingo takes place every Tuesday night at 9pm in the clubhouse. The bingo is a great opportunity for the community to come together midweek and have a good night while maybe even winning a few bob. This is a fundamental part of the club’s fund raising for day-to-day costs and we would all really appreciate if you, your friends or your family could support this if you can at all. And, don’t forget, there is transport available to the centre. Every week, our volunteers go to great efforts to keep this going so that all of the other voluntary members of the club have a good starting platform. Hope to see some new faces tomorrow night and over the coming weeks.

If you would like to get items into the club notes please contact Niall Duffy by 8pm on Monday evening and he’ll gladly include.
