PLATINUM TANKS RESERVE FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION 1 A FINAL.
Scotstown 2-12, Truagh 1-6.
A sharper, more clinical Scotstown deservedly clinched the Platinum Tanks sponsored reserve football league division 1A title, at the expense of Truagh in this very entertaining contest that was played in excellent conditions in St Oliver Plunkett Park, Emyvale, on Thursday evening last. Scotstown were never headed in the entire contest as Truagh were playing catch up throughout and while they fared well enough in the possession stakes they lacked the penetration and the finishing power that Scotstown had particularly through the efforts of France Maguire, Ruairi Sheehan and Daniel McNally, Maguire always posing a big threat and finishing top scorer with 2-5, just one point of which came from a free. Truagh themselves though were not lacking in effort but Scotstown got off to eh brighter start and had 5 points on the board before Truagh opened their account in the 16th minute. Then a goal by Aidan Kerr in the 25th minute was a major boost but Truagh failed to build on that initiative and Scotstown went on to lead at half-time by 6 points. In the second-half Scotstown continued to dominate the exchanges but too often while Truagh again competed well for possession, the final ball in to their inside line was not of the quality needed against a hard-working Scotstown defence in which Fergal McPhillips led by example. Francis Maguire capped a man of the match performance with Scotstown’s 2nd goal 3 minutes into stoppage time, to leave his side winning by double scores.
