CLUB NOTES

2nd August 2016

Golf Classic

Our upcoming golf classic takes place on Saturday 27th August at the beautiful Clones Golf Club. The club is delighted to announce that Mullinahinch House Private Nursing Home have come on board again as our main sponsors and we sincerely thank the Murray family for their generosity, kindness and support of this event. The cost to enter a team is €120.00 and to book your place please contact our chairman Michael Carroll 086-1041165, club secretary Martina McKeown 086-1509735 or Paddy McKeown and a member on the organising committee will be in touch to discuss a convenient time for you to play. There are also exciting opportunities for businesses, families and individuals to advertise by sponsoring a tee or a green for a reasonable €50. If you are unable to play golf but would still like to make a contribution perhaps you would be interested in sponsoring a prize for a raffle. If so please get in touch because we would be delighted to talk to you.

Mc Elvaney Waste & Recycling Intermediate Football Championship

It’s that time of year again folks where once again we set out in anticipation of a new championship campaign. Our Round 1A match against Emyvale in the McElvaney’s Waste & Recycling Intermediate Football Championship is fixed for this Saturday 6th August at Páirc an Iarnróid, Smithborough and throw-in time is 7pm. Looking back at the league match it was a very tight affair with Emyvale running out eventual winners by a single point and this encounter has all the ingredients to be another exciting game. After the ding-dong battle against Tyholland last weekend there are a number of players carrying niggling injuries but let’s hope (and pray) that the magic water and the medical team can work their magic and have all the players fit and ready to play in this important match. It’s going to be a hard task and I would now ask our club members and supporters to show up and cheer on the team and be the sixteenth man to get us across the line. Good luck lads and as I always say…”leave it all out on the field”.

Monaghan Electrical IFL

It’s either a feast or a famine with our fixture schedule because the senior players will not get much time to rest their weary limbs as they are back in action in the Monaghan Electrical league campaign on Wednesday 10th August when they host Emyvale at Pairc Naomh Mhuire and throw-in time is 7.30pm. On Sunday 14th August they have another home game against Corduff and throw-in time is 12.30pm.

Stewards Wanted

On Wednesday 17th August we host the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Final between Blackhill v Sean McDermott’s and throw-in time is 7.15pm. Any committee member or senior footballer that is available to help steward at the match please meet up at 6pm. Thanks

Go Games Blitz

This Saturday 6th August the under 8 footballers are back in action when they travel to Clones to take part in an all-county blitz and it starts at 9.30am and finishes around 11.30am. The under 10 players will travel to the same venue (Clones) on Saturday 20th August to take part in an all-county blitz starting at 9.30am to 11.30am. On Saturday 27th August there is a double blitz involving both the under 8 and under 10 players and they will not have to far to travel because it takes place at neighbouring club Latton between 10 am to 12 noon. The under 8 players will take part in their final Go Games Blitz on Saturday 10th September when they travel to Tyholland and I assume it starts at 10am and finishes at 12 noon! On Saturday 24th September the under 10 footballers will finish the season when they take part in their final Go Games Blitz also at Tyholland starting at 10am and completing at 12 noon.

Well Done

You may have noticed that the Cul Camps have been taking place all over the county and I want to congratulate one of our budding stars of the future Sean Greenan who recently won the skills award at the Latton Cul Camp. Well done Sean, a great achievement for you and hopefully we will see you grace the green & white jersey for many, many years to come.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 12 Division 4 (Shield)

Their next outing is on Saturday 6th August with a home game against Killeevan at 12 noon. On Saturday 20th August they take on Oram at Pairc Naomh Mhuire at 12 noon.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 14

Our under 14 footballers returned to action in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg league when they hosted Sean McDermott’s last Wednesday 27th July. The game was played at Pairc Naomh Mhuire and the lads showed no ill effects after their disappointing defeat to Ballybay in the Championship final. The whole team put in a strong and spirited performance and maintained their good form with an impressive display and really overpowered their opponents to secure the spoils on a score-line Rockcorry 1-18 Sean McDermott’s 0-5. Well done lads and keep up the good work. Due to holiday’s the under 14 match between Ballybay v Rockcorry has been changed to Monday 8th August in Ballybay and throw-in time is 7.30pm.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 16

On Thursday 4th August they have a home game against St. Tiarnach Sarsfields at 7.30pm.

Croke Park Activity Day

Monday 15th August is Activity Day in Croke Park where kids from across the county get the chance to play on the famous turf. At the under twelve training tonight Dylan Reilly and Mark Nesbitt were the lucky lads whose names were drawn out of the hat to attend the event. While I applaud the innovation and the wonderful gesture by Croke Park to allow underage players run out onto the’ hallowed turf’ it is very unfair to select only two players. There were quite a few sad faces throughout the team, which is very understandable, because it’s every player’s dream to play at Croke Park. Regardless of your ability Croke Park should not only be for the so called ‘elite’ players and moving forward I would love to see the GAA take further steps to allow every single player the opportunity to walk and play on the respected sod of Croke Park…..let’s start a campaign folks “Croke Park for ALL” Anyway, having said all that well done to Dylan & Mark it is a lovely achievement and hopefully you will have an amazing day…one that I’m sure you will never ever forget.

NED RUN

The 6th Annual Ned Run that the Scotstown GAA Club host in aid of Local Charities takes place this year on Friday 5th August commencing at 7.30pm from the Scotstown GAA Grounds. If you can please support this event for all the local charities.
