Last Saturday, Monaghan Coaching & Games organised the annual Monaghan Ulster Og U15 7 a-side blitz for Cloghan. The winners of this competition go onto represent Monaghan in the Ulster Competition which this year will take place in Aughnamullen after they won the Ulster competition last year. Every club in the county were invited to take part in this competition but only 6 clubs took part in the competition which was disappointing to say the least. The six clubs who took part in the blitz were Aughnamullen, Castleblayney, Carrickmacross, Drumhowan, Latton, and Scotstown.
The competition was run on a league basis with all six clubs playing each other with the team who finished top of the league going onto win the competition and represent Monaghan in Ulster competition. On the day all 6 clubs played a nice brand of football which you can get at 7 a-side and the skill level of the players across the board was excellent. After the first two or three rounds Carrickmacross, Drumhowan and Latton were setting the standard by getting early wins under their belt. As the competition moved towards its conclusion Latton continued this good form and remained unbeaten throughout the competition with their key game against Carrickmacross proving an excellent encounter throughout. By remaining unbeaten Latton went onto win the competition with Carrickmacross pushing them all the way with the Latton defeat the only blip on their record. Latton now go onto represent Monaghan in the Ulster competition at the beginning of September and we wish them all the best in this competition.
Monaghan Coaching & Games would just like to thank all six clubs, their players and managers for coming and supporting the blitz on the day and also to the three referees on the day namely Xavier Coyle, Martin McMahon and Shane Askin.
Monaghan Coaching & Games will be organising an U13 blitz for later in the year and so all clubs should look out for that and hopefully it will be a little better supported than last Saturday
