Seniors.
Our seniors played Cremartin in the Intermediate football championship replay on Saturday last in Smithboro. First of all, congratulations to the Eire Og club for providing such a superb venue, and with the conditions ideal, both teams contributed to an excellent sporting encounter. Two Stephen Smith scores saw Currin take an early lead but we were not getting any breaks around centre field and Cremartin held the initiative approaching half time. We trailed by two when an Enda Mc Caffrey score left us just one behind going into the break, 0-8 to 0-7. In the second half we began to dominate the middle third of the field and between the fifth and twentieth minute we scored a goal and three points without reply to give us a commanding lead which we never relinquished and we ran out deserved winners on a final score line of Currin 1-12, Cremartin, 0-11. Ben Clerkin and Colm Mc Caffrey were once again magnificent in defence as was Dara Brady who constantly raided up the wings to join the attack. Ronan King, with his last minute score and Jason Mc Kiernan with his bravely taken game winning goal cemented a marvellous week for them by adding to their already impressive haul of Leaving cert points. Stephen Smith was once
again on fire scoring six points. But this was a great team performance with the senior players and youngsters combining for a super second half. Well done to all concerned. Team and scorers, Fergal Connolly, Colm Mc Caffrey, Ronan King, 0-1, Ben Clerkin, Paddy Mc Dermott, Enda Mc Caffrey, 0-2, Dara Brady, Dick Clerkin, Paul Rudden, Ciaran Mc Caffrey, Kieran Kearns, Jason Mc Kiernan, 1-0, Niall Mc Entee, 0-3, Stephen Smith 0-6, Cian North. Substitutes used, Conor Mc Caffrey, Eoin Morrow. We now play Rockcorry in the next round in two weeks. Next Sunday we entertain Inniskeen in Scotshouse at 12.30 pm in the league. Please note time.
