Our U-12 team qualified for the league final last Monday night against Monaghan in Concra. A game well referred by Jim O Rourke we started strongly and were always in control. Scores from Thomas and Jason got us off to a good start and having secured a good lead were able to give valuable game time to all the squad. The final against Cootehill has not yet been fixed but given that Cootehill beat Carrick 14-16 to 1-1 shows what we are up against in the final. 8 players from our club availed of the opportunity to play in Croke park as part of the Activity Day. Hope Thomas, Jason, Brandon, Stephen, Calum , Ross , Ultan and Joe enjoyed the day. On Sunday 36 of our U-12 and U-14 panel travelled to Croke Park for the All Ireland hurling semi final featuring Tipp and Galway . It was a very enjoyable outing though the Galway supporters in the bus home were a bit quiet. Conall was exceptionally quiet in the way home , obviously the result affected him more than most . Big effort for the next few weeks in preparation for the U-12 final.
Under 16,s
The under 16’s played in the ulster league against st Fechin’s from louth. The lads went down narrowly in a well contested match.
On the night we had some great performances, Niall Carville was very sound in goals, Adam Collins, Declan Hughes Steven Beattie and David Irwin were all very solid in the defence. Cian O’Connor showed great fitness and drive in midfield. Ciaran Duffy in forwards scored some great long distance points, Joey Hughes and Hugh Brennan worked hard in the forward line and Hugh scored a great individual goal. Senan O’Brien was a constant threat throughout the match, he banged in two goals and was very unlucky not to get a hat trick. The lads showed great skill and played with great spirit up until the final whistle. Details of next training to follow.
