SILVER HILL FARM SENIOR HURLING LEAGUE FINAL.
Castleblayney HC 2-7, Inniskeen 1-10.
Castleblayney HC and Inniskeen have to meet again to decide whether Inniskeen can complete the senior hurling double or if Castleblayney can take the league title to compensate for their championship demise, when they finished all square at the end of what was a fairly low-key but closely contested affair in Clontibret on Thursday evening last. Played in good conditions this was a game that was close all through with the sides level six times in all, including at the final whistle, but it was a game also that never really sparked into life other than in the closing minutes as both sides sought what would have been the winning score. Overall though a draw was probably a fair enough result as there was little to separate them all through but Castleblayney did have the handicap of playing most of the second-half with 14 players following the dismissal of Hugh Byrne 4 minutes after the resumption. Castleblayney got off to a great start with 2 early goals but by half-time Inniskeen had turned things around to lead by a 1-6 to 2-2 and the lead changed hands on a number of occasions in the second-half, with Castleblayney playing catch up twice in the final 5 minutes of normal time before a point by Niall Garland from a ‘65 put the issue to a replay.
