CLUB NOTES

19th July 2016

Wall of Fame Launch

We officially launched our latest fund raising campaign last Saturday night in Fitzpatrick’s. The chairman gave a short talk on the scheme and looked forward to receiving the full support from all past and present players, managers, club members and supporters. He stated that the motivation of the club is building for the future and highlighted all money raised will go towards developing Pairc Naomh Mhuire to help provide better facilities to cater for the needs of the youth. In between the photographs, our master of ceremonies Sean McCaffrey kept things ticking over and kept the audience engaged with his usual unobtrusive funniness and humour. He tied everything together in a logical progression while providing some detailed historical background on a number of the clubs major achievements that covered six decades. He also chatted to members of the various teams and on occasions the loss of memory resulted in some good natured slagging that was highly enjoyable and mighty craic. For more details on the Wall of Fame please contact club chairman Michael Carroll at pro.rockcorry.monaghan@gaa.ie or text 086-1041165.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 14 Championship Final

Our under 14 footballers travelled to Pairc Mhic Eoin, Drumhowan last Saturday 16th July to play Ballybay in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg Division 4 Championship Final. We were expecting a hard battle and it proved just that and a whole lot more as both teams were evenly matched and dished up some lively football that produced a really thrilling & breath-taking contest. I have to complement all players for their tremendous efforts and for providing a high standard of football because from the first whistle to the very last whistle this was an incredibly exciting match that kept both sets of supporters on the edge of their seat. Sadly, (from our point of view) Ballybay clinched the victory with a late goal to send their players, mentors and supporters into a frenzy as they sealed the victory on a score-line Ballybay 4-8 Rockcorry 2-12. A full match report and a selection of action photographs can be viewed on our Facebook page. On behalf of the Rockcorry GAA club I want to congratulate the Ballybay club on their win and I would just like to thank all the parents and supporters who travelled to Pairc Mhic Eoin, Drumhowan to cheer on and support our future footballers. Many thanks to Brian Carroll, John Elliot and Eamon Clerkin for looking after the team and hopefully we will have other days later on in the year. Hard luck lads, I know its disappointing but keep those heads held high and keep up the good work.

We will be competing in the Shield competition and Round 1 took place last Monday 18th July when they travelled to play Scotstown.
