Week Three of the Kellogg’s Cul Camp’s kicked into action on Monday the 18th July with five camps taking place in Truagh, Killanny, Eire Og, Ballybay and Aghabog. The trend from the first two weeks of the camps continued for Week Three with record numbers attending the camps. In Truagh 153 children attended the camp, on the Tuesday of the camp they were also joined by 12 children from Cloghan Valley Rugby Club as part of a Cross Border Initiative between the Truagh Club and the Clogher Valley Rugby Club, hopefully this initiative will continue to grow and prosper. In Killanny 138 boys and girls attended the camp with 82 enjoying the Eire Og camp. The Ballybay camp had 175 children attend while Aghabog got over the 100 mark for the first time with a total of 106 children taking part. That is a total of 654 children!
The weather held up it’s side of the bargin as well with sun, sun and even more sun on the menu all week! The children got to experience the full enjoyment of a Kellogg’s Cul Camp with a full range of fun games and activities throughout the week. Each of the participants who attended the camps got an opportunity to play football, hurling, camogie, rounders and and some camps handball.
On top of this county players Rory Beggan, Barry McGinn and county U21 Ulster winning captain Kevin Loughran were coaching at the camps. It’s great for the children to come and learn from our county hero’s, which will hopefully inspire them to want to play for their county team in the future. Rory attended all four camps over the week, where he completed a number of different challenges against the children. This seemed to go down well with the children and it’s something to look out for at the remainder of the camps.
Monaghan Coaching & Games Development Committee would like to thank the host clubs for providing their excellent facilities and for supporting and promoting the camps. On top of this we would just like to the thank a number the clubs for running their own shops at the camps particularly Anne Toal in Eire Og who provided Mr. Freezes for all the children in Eire Og after the camp was over on the Friday. Furthermore they would like to thank camp co-ordinators, coaches, parents and children for their help in ensuring the camps where a success.
As the parents are already aware, any child who registered on the first morning of the camp did not receive their kit and backpack during the camp due to such a large number of children attending the Kellogg’s Cul Camps this year. For any child who did not receive their kit, we will arrange a collection evening at the camp venue sometime in August once the extra kits arrive.
If you would like any further information about the camp please do not hesitate to contact county coordinator Paul O’Connor (086 837 4827)and he will be glad to help.
