U21 DIVISION 1 CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL.
Donaghmoyne 1-14, Magheracloone 2-10.
Donaghmoyne came with a late flourish to snatch victory in this absorbing under 21 division 1 championship final that built to a sizzling climax in Pairc Eanna, Killanny, on Thursday evening last and in the process gained sweet revenge for their defeat by Magheracloone in last year’s decider at the same venue. Magheracloone held a slight edge on the scoreboard for most of this exciting contest that produced some brilliant passages of play and excellent scores, particularly from the respective sharpshooters, David Garland, Donaghmoyne and Alan McCahey Magheracloone. Magheracloone led at half-time by 1-6 to 0-5 the goal a somewhat fortuitous one just 7 minutes into the match and when they struck for their 2ndgoal 5 minutes into the 2nd half to take a 7 points lead the achievement of putting titles back-to-back looked on the cards. However Donaghmoyne had other ideas and set to with a will, led by the excellent David Garland, as they outscored Magheracloone by 1-7 to 0-1 between the 6th and 23rd minutes of the 2nd period, David Garland with all 7 points and the goal excellently finished by Mikey Murnaghan. A point from a free by Garland restored Donaghmoyne to the lead for only the 2nd time in the game and they held out in an electrifying finish as Magheracloone threw everything into salvaging the situation but the Fontenoys weathered the storm for the narrowest of victories.
