Results: On Monday evening in wonderful sunny conditions the senior team hosted county champions Scotstown in the rearranged fixture of the Monaghan Credit Union Senior Football League. The hosts started the brightest and opened the scoring with a well worked point from Shane McQuillan before the visitors levelled matters. The game was then delayed for a lengthy stoppage due to an injury to Michael Hannon, who was assisted off the field. One the restart Paul Finlay got the second before the visitors levelled again, a pattern was developing t the game. It continued in this manner until Aaron Toner hit the back of the net a goal putting day light between the teams and what would prove to be a major score in the game. Scotstown hit the next score before the ever dangerous Chris McGuiness slotted over to level the goal the difference at half time. The visitors got the first two points of the half before Chris hit his second of the day to keep the home side ever so slightly in front. The second half took on a similar pattern to the first with little separating the sides as they exchanged score for score. There was an underlying tension throughout the affair and it finally boiled over with a man from each side receiving their marching orders following a lengthy stoppage to play. This tension continued to play a factor and another Scotstown man received red following a second altercation. With only a point between the side entering the final quarter the home side needed to make the extra man count but to the credit of Scotstown they didn’t have it all their own way. Chris converted a wonderful effort off his left to put two between the sides and Thomas Kerr hit another, after some great running from deep from Eoin McKeraney created the space, to leave the goal between them again. From the restart Eoin was involved again but this time suffered injury after receiving a hard blow going down on the ball, unfortunately needing to be replaced. Scotstown got their hands on the ball again and pushed Ballybay to the limit bringing the game back to a single point before points from Ciaran Gallighan & James Kerr secured victory. All in all management will be happy with the victory & satisfied with some individual displays but will know there’s work to done during championship preparations. Full time score Ballybay 1-11 Scotstown 0-11 Ballybay team: Sean Gorman, Evan Rutledge, Brent Wylie, Mark McArdle, Shane McQuillan, Michael Hannon, James Kerr, Ciaran Gallighan, Thomas O’Neil, Eoin McKearney, Paul Finlay, Aaron Toner, Christopher McGuiness, Fergal McArdle, Thomas Kerr, Cillan McAviney, Danny Gorman & Drew Wylie.

Juvenile final: On Saturday last our U14’s battled to the end to claim victory over Rockcorry in the Division 4 League final of the Gerry’s Prepared Veg competition. Ballybay lead throughout the first half with the team on song throughout the field but Rock came out fighting after the break and fully deserved their lead entering the final moments. But the heart and determination of the Ballybay boys came through and with 1-1 in the final minutes claimed a two-point victory. Congrtaulations to all involved with a special mention to team mentors Malachy Brennan, Colm Duffy & Tom Kennan who have done magnificent work with the lads all year long. Keep up the good work & its great to see our juvenile teams back claiming silverware again. Full time score Ballybay 4-8 Rockcorry 2-12. Ballybay squad: Jayden Lee, Daniel Mountgomery, Thomas Keenan, Ruairi Duffy, Phillip Brady, Dara McCann, Julius Sniauksta, Oran Byrne, Joshua Dixon, John Lambe, Artus Muizneieks, Conor McArdle, Blake Lee, Isiah Dixon, Cian Sherry.

Speedy recovery to both Michael Hannon & Eoin McKernay who both suffered serious injury in the recent game against Scotstown. Hopefully it wont be long till we see you back on the playing field ready for action. Keep the head up lads.

Volunteers wanted: If you feel you could spare an hour of your time on a Tuesday evening the bingo committee are looking people to help them run this much needed money raiser for the club during the summer months. If you think this is something that is off interest to you and you’d like more info please do not hesitate to contact either Gerry West, Paddy Kerr or an any committee member.

Bingo: Just a quick note to remind everyone that the club’s weekly Bingo takes place every Tuesday night at 9pm in the clubhouse. The bingo is a great opportunity for the community to come together midweek and have a good night while maybe even winning a few bob. This is a fundamental part of the club’s fund raising for day-to-day costs and we would all really appreciate if you, your friends or your family could support this if you can at all. And, don’t forget, there is transport available to the centre. Every week, our volunteers go to great efforts to keep this going so that all of the other voluntary members of the club have a good starting platform. Hope to see some new faces tomorrow night and over the coming weeks!

Cul camps: Don’t forget to register your child in this year’s Cul Camps taking place this summer. To ensure that your kids get their packs early registration is essential. For more info contact Cillian McAviney or Evan Rutledge.
