Rockcorry Notes

Good Luck Monaghan

The Quarter Final of the Ulster Senior Football Championship takes place this Sunday 5th June at St. Tiarnach’s Park, Clones and it’s going to be an epic battle between Monaghan v Down. Get ready to show your support and wear your county colours with pride and cheer on the Monaghan team to another great victory. On behalf of everyone at the Rockcorry GAA club I would like to extend our best wishes to all the players and the back room management team. Good luck lads, do yourselves proud and leave everything out on the field. Come on MONAGHAN.

Monaghan Electrical IFL

Last Saturday 28th May, our senior footballers took on Tyholland at Pairc Naomh Mhuire in the Monaghan Electrical intermediate football league campaign. When these sides meet it is always a good tough competitive game and on this occasion it proved to be another highly exciting contest played in a great spirit with great support for both sides. On an evening ideal for football the first half was tit for tat with both sides producing passages of quality football and impressive scores and at the interval we enjoyed a 1-5 to 0-5 advantage. Tyholland started the second half in style and narrowed the gap to a single score but we managed to stay in front before the major turning point of the game arrived when Tyholland bagged their first goal midway through the half to leave it 1-8 apiece. As the saying goes ‘goals win games’ and this was certainly the case when Tyholland grabbed their second goal to swing this evenly matched contest in their favour and unfortunately, from our perspective, the game finished Rockcorry 1-10 Tyholland 2-9. On reflection, the general consensus was that this was a game that we left behind and was one that we could have or should have won. We were playing and competing well but once again some basic mistakes cost us dearly and Tyholland took full advantage. A full match report and a selection of action photographs can be viewed at www.rockcorrygaa.ie or our Facebook page.

Monaghan Electrical IFL Fixtures

The senior footballers are back in action on Friday 10th June they travel to Scotshouse to play Currin and throw-in time is 8pm.

Platinum Tanks RFL Division 2

Our reserve footballers travelled to Pairc Mhic Eoin last Wednesday 25th May to play Drumhowan in the Platinum Tanks reserve football league division 2 campaign. The match was played in excellent conditions with glorious sunshine beaming across the field and both sets of players dished up a very enjoyable and entertaining match. The first half was a very tight affair with little separating the teams at any stage. The game flowed from end to end for the entire time and after the first thirty minutes Drumhowan enjoyed a slender advantage leading 0-6 to 0-5 at the half-time interval. When play resumed Drumhowan went on a mini rampage and notched over some early scores to move ahead by four points leading 0-12 to 0-8 midway through the half. However, as the game progressed the lads upper their performance and produced some of the best football of the year with a gutsy ten minutes and finished with some delightful scores to secure a share of the spoils on a final score-line Drumhowan 0-13 Rockcorry 0-13.

Platinum Tanks RFL Division 2 Fixtures

Go Games Fixtures

The next blitz for the little warriors (under 8 players) is on Saturday 11th June and they will not have to far to travel because it will be held Pairc Naomh Mhuire between 10am to 12 noon. On Saturday 18th June the under 10 footballers will get their chance to showcase their skills when they take part in a Go Games blitz at Pairc Naomh Mhuire between 10am to 12 noon.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 12 Competitive League

Our under 12 footballers were sadly beaten on Wednesday 25th May when they played Ballybay at Pairc Naomh Mhuire in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg league. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the game but according to reports they were slow out of the blocks as Ballybay played the much better football during the opening exchanges and built up a sizeable advantage. During the second half they played much better and gradually worked their way into the game and finished strong but it was a case of too little too late as Ballybay sealed the victory on a final score-line Rockcorry 2-7 (13) Ballybay 5-6 (21). Due to a bereavement in the Corduff club last Saturday’s under 12 match in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg Division 4 league was postponed. It will now take place on Wednesday 1st June at Pairc Naomh Mhuire and throw-in time is 7.30pm.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 14

Their next outing in the league campaign is a home game against Doohamlet on Saturday 4th June and throw-in time is 12 noon.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 14 Championship

The under 14 footballers will get their first taste of championship action on Tuesday 31st May when they travel to Smithboro to play Eire Og in the Quarter Final of the Division 4 Championship

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 16

Our under 16 footballers travelled to Oram last Thursday 26th May to play Clan na Gael (Oram & Toome) in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg Division 3 league campaign. This was always going to be a difficult assignment against a strong amalgamated side and Clan na Gael were particularly impressive throughout the match and laid the platform for the victory at an early stage. Our lads battled hard and never stopped trying during the course of the game and registered some memorable scores but sadly the writing was on the wall as Clan na Gael produced a dominant performance to secure the spoils on a final score-line Clan na Gael 7-6 Rockcorry 1-9. Due to examinations taking centre stage over the next couple of weeks their next outing in the league campaign is not until Thursday 30th June when they host Doohamlet at Pairc Naomh Mhuire at 7.30pm.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 16 Championship

Please make a note in your diary because the under 16 footballers will play St. Tiarnach Sarsfields on Thursday 7th July in the Division 3 Championship.
