Seniors.
Our seniors played Emyvale away on Sunday last in a ‘Star’ game. In the proverbial game of two halves Currin started brightly and were going well after an Eoin Morrow goal and with Stephen Smith playing well. However, the weather change coincided with the home side getting on top and in the second half they moved ahead to win by three points. Final score, Emyvale 0-16, Currin, 1-10. Team and scorers, Fergal Connolly, Colm Mc Caffrey, Paul Rudden, Ben Clerkin, Ronan King, Sean Brady, Paddy Mc Dermott, Eoin Morrow, 1-0. Ciaran Mc Caffrey, 0-1, Kieran Kearns, Stephen Smith 0-8, Jason Mc Kiernan, Dylan Greenan, Niall Mc Entee, Michael Quigley, 0-1. Subs used, Conor Beatty, Conor Mc Caffrey.
Youth Affairs
Sponsorship,
A big thank you to our local sponsors, from our under 14 players, for the new jerseys, they look brilliant.
Under 16s,
We had a narrow loss to near neighbours St Tiarnachs Sarsfields in Killeevan lastThursday evening (2 14 to 3 09). PatrickEmmetts are tied in second position
in the table after four wins from six games, just two behind Clan na Gael. The next league game is against the table toppers but thats not on until 30th June, due to the exam break. The very best of luck to all of the young people from the area doing their exams, both Junior Cert and Leaving Cert, in the coming weeks. Also well done to Bank of Ireland for their contribution towards a new set of jerseys.
Under 14s,
We played the Championship game against Clones on Tuesday evening. Their next league game is also against Clones in Aghabog on Saturday 4th June at 12 noon. All support appreciated.
Under 12’s,
Along with the under 10s, we played Clontibret on Saturday 28 May. The first half was a very even affair and ended three points to two for Clontibret. The team performed very well and took the lead for a short while in the second half before being outscored by the home team in the last ten minutes. Our low numbers are significant drawback as we had no subs and Clontibret were able to put on a number of fresh players. The next game is a home one against Killanny on Saturday 11th June at 12 noon.
Coaching,
We really do need additional coaches to take on the role of inducting and training the young players, particularly from Under 6 to Under 10 level. Parents and others are encouraged to participate (and training will be provided).
Under 6, Under 8, Under 10 & Under 12 training continues this Saturday morning at 9:30pm. Registration forms will be available for first registration and costs €5 for the year including insurance. Please pass the word.
Congratulations,
Well done to St Enda’s, Comhairle na nOg, girls team who won their final on Friday last and were very convincing winners with some very strong performances. Congratulations also to the schools athletes who won several medal in the county championships at the Peace Link last week.
Good luck,
Currin GFC would like to send our best wishes to Terry Mc Entee, club member and player, who is representing Ireland in the European Championships in Russia at the weekend. Also best of luck to Dick and Jack and Monaghan is the Ulster senior championship on Sunday against Down.
Recent bereavement,
Currin G.F.C. would like to sympathise with the Connolly family on the recent death of Alice Connolly, Dunsrim, Scotshouse. R.I.P. We would like to offer our condolences to her family and friends, in particular to her daughters Margaret
and Sile and especially to her son Jimmy. Go ndeana Dia trochaire ar a ainm dilis.
