Monaghan Electrical IFL
After the disappointing result against Cremartin last week we were hoping and expecting a positive reaction from our senior footballers when they travelled to Pairc Eanna last Sunday 15th May to play Killanny in the Monaghan Electrical League. The game was played in perfect conditions with glorious sunshine beaming across the pitch and while we may have hit a speed bump in our previous round the lads looked impressive and a lot more focused. They played with more passion and the fire was back as they brought a greater intensity to the match and with a powerful performance they secured the league spoils on a score-line Killanny 0-10 Rockcorry 1-13. Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 12 Competitive League
Our under 12 footballers travelled to play Killeevan last Saturday 14th May in their first round of the Gerry’s Prepared Veg competitive league campaign. The home side did not want for any motivation and gained a measure of revenge after their Spring League defeat a couple of weeks ago and after a highly competitive and high scoring encounter the home side emerged victorious on a score-line Killeevan 9-4 Rockcorry 4-12. Hard luck boys and girls 4-12 is an impressive scoring tally so keep up the good work. Their next outing is on Wednesday 25th May when they play Ballybay at Pairc Naomh Mhuire and throw-in time is 7.30pm.
Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 14
They are back in action on Saturday 21st May when they travel to play Corduff at 12 noon.
Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 16
Our under 16 footballers travelled to play Tyholland last Thursday 12th May in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg league competition and a hard working performance was not enough as Tyholland took control of the match at an early stage and secured a comprehensive victory on a score-line Tyholland 10-15 Rockcorry 2-15. This was a very good match that produced plenty of skilful action and while the score-line shows a heavy defeat you didn’t have to look too far to get a look at fighting spirit because the lads never gave up their belief and willingness to compete. It was obviously disappointing to lose the match but I have to report that all players showed a wonderful attitude and put in an enormous effort and were rewarded with some fabulous scores. They certainly created chances and on another day things may have been different! Keep up the good work lads. On Thursday 19th may they have a home game against St. Patrick Sarsfields at 7.30pm.
Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 16 Championship
Please make a note in your diary because the under 16 footballers will play St. Tiarnach Sarsfields on Thursday 7th July in the Division 3 Championship.
Minor Football League Division 3
Our under 18 footballers played Sean McDermott’s last Tuesday 10th May in the Minor league campaign and I’m afraid it was a case of having another bad day at the office as Sean McDermott’s totally dominated the encounter and secured a comfortable and comprehensive victory. They are back in action on Tuesday 17th May when they make the short journey to take on Latton and throw-in time is 7.30pm.
Go Games Blitz – Under 8
Last Saturday 14th May the future stars of the club (under 8 players) took centre stage when they travelled to the Monaghan GAA training grounds located at Cloghan, Annyalla to take part in their second Go Games Blitz competition. It was an all-County blitz with clubs from all over the county taking part, and at a sun-drenched Cloghan there was plenty of activity with all fields in action and it was a great sight to see. The three games against Latton, Blackhill and Currin all mirrored the glorious weather conditions because they were excellent. Once again the standard was very impressive and I have to say watching the kids totally focused and performing their skills was a treat and it gave everyone a really nice feel good factor to see them showcase their talents while at the same time learning and developing their abilities. It was an extremely well run and enjoyable day and a well done to all the boys and girls for their wonderful efforts. It was also lovely to see so many mammies & daddies there to support and encourage the children and a special word of mention to the hard working coaches Sean McCaffrey and Cormac McFadden for looking after the future players of the club.Well done everyone and we look forward to the next blitz with huge excitement and anticipation. Keep up the good work.
