Monaghan Electrical IFL
Our senior footballers were in action last Saturday 23rd April when they travelled to play Corduff in the Monaghan Electrical intermediate football league campaign. The game was a lively affair and as expected it was not for the faint hearted as both sets of players dished up a thrilling and entertaining contest. The first half was evenly poised throughout and after a compelling thirty minutes both teams were on 1-4 apiece at the half time interval. In truth the damage was done during the first ten minutes of the second period when we hit a mini purple patch that yielded 3-1 to hold a commanding ten point advantage, leading 1-4 to 4-5. At this point Corduff upped the tempo to try and get back into the game and notched over some lovely scores. It was a tense and tight affair during the closing stages and there were many heart-stopping moments but I have say the lads dug deep and showed great character and battling qualities to deny Corduff any easy scoring opportunities and managed to hold on to claim their first league points on a score-line Corduff 2-12 Rockcorry 4-7. Wall of Fame / Wall of Acknowledgment
The Great Wall of China is one of the most recognised structures in the world and is the largest man made barrier ever built and is truly a modern wonder of the world. In a similar fashion, the club are planning to build our very own great wall and while it will not be as majestic or as long as the Great Wall of China it will nevertheless be something special and something that we will all hold close to our hearts. The idea is simple, as part of the clubs development fund raising campaign we intend to build a wall that will contain names of players that ever wore the ‘Green & White’ jersey. Furthermore, it will also contain names of individuals or families that would like to be included and acknowledged as part of this fund raising drive. This is one of our main fund raising activities for the further development of our facilities and it will provide YOU with a unique opportunity to support YOUR club and be a part of the future development of Pairc Naomh Mhuire. It will also guarantee that your support will be recorded for posterity on the wall and your name will be visible for future generations. We are currently compiling a comprehensive list of former and current players, committee members, club members etc and we will be approaching you to invite you to make a donation of €100 to have your name etched into the display alongside many legends of the club. To date, we have had a positive feedback from a test group of players and families and we are hoping that all past and current players who have worn the jersey with pride will come on board to support this fund raising event. It will eventually become a focal point on our grounds located at Pairc Naomh Mhuire and hopefully, when a date is formally agreed, we will have a great night when everything will be revealed.

The emphasis on the day is FUN and RESPECT and I would encourage as many parents and families to go and support the youngsters on this fun day. I would like to take this opportunity to wish the team mentors and all the players the very best of luck in their final.
Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 14
Our Under 14 footballers travelled to Pearse Park last Saturday 23rd April to play Ballybay in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg division 4 league. As games go this was not a good game but rather it was an outstanding encounter and if you were not in attendance today then shame on you because you missed an absolute humdinger of a match that kept both sets of supporters on a knife edge until virtually the last kick of the game. Weather conditions were perfect with glorious sunshine beaming down across the pitch and both teams served up a very entertaining game. Ballybay started the brighter and midway through the first half they lead, 0-3 to 0-1. After a slow start we eventually found our rhythm and notched over some impressive scores and after an exciting twenty-five minutes the scoreboard showed Ballybay 0-5 Rockcorry 0-5. The second half was a mirror image of the first half with superb defending, tenacious tackling, magnificent high fielding, super flowing football, athletic saves and some breath-taking scores that if you witnessed senior players do you would be crowing about it for a long time! As the game entered the closing stages there was nothing separating the sides with the scoreboard showing 1-10 to 2-7. Unfortunately, from our point of view, Ballybay finished the strongest and added 1-1 to their tally in the final minute to secure the victory on a score-line Ballybay 2-11 Rockcorry 2-7. They are back in action on Saturday 7th May when they host Killeevan at Pairc Naomh Mhuire. However, this may change as there is First Communion in the Parish the same day. Watch this space for details.
Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 16
Our under 16 footballers were in action last Thursday 21st April when they played Scotstown in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg league division 3 campaign. Regardless of what the scoreboard shows this was a highly entertaining match and both teams has to be commended for their efforts as they served up an entertaining match that saw some great passages of football being played. It was very evident from the start that our lads were up for the challenge as they put in a battling performance and after an impressive first half they held a commanding advantage, leading 3-5 to 0-1 at the interval. The game continued at a fast pace during the second half and there was really nothing between the sides (during the second period) as the game flowed from end to end with some electrifying football. It was a thrilling contest and the supporters certainly got their money’s worth as both teams notched up 1-5 apiece and the game ended Rockcorry 4-10 Scotstown 1-6. Their next outing is on Thursday 5th May when they host Patrick Emetts at Pairc Naomh Mhuire and throw-in time is 7.30pm.
Minor Football League Division 3
Our minor footballers played Cremartin last Tuesday 19th April, in the Minor Football League Division 3 campaign and I’m afraid it was a case of having another bad day at the office as Cremartin totally dominated the encounter and secured a comfortable and comprehensive victory on a score-line Cremartin 7-18 Rockcorry 2-7. Their next outing is on Tuesday 26th April with a home match against Doohamlet at 7pm. On Tuesday 3rd May they travel to Tyholland at 7.30pm.
