Seniors

Saturday seen our Senior team travel to take on Drumhowan. From the first minute our lads dominated the game from start to finish. With Ronan Cassidy and Stevie Kerr dominating the midfield it was the same outstanding performance put in by James leoard and Connor Toal while Darren McMahon settled back into the line-up by getting either a hand, leg or other parts of his body to stop Drumhowan getting in and successfully kept the home side to just a point come half time. On the other side of the field it was Ryan Sherlock that showed the class in front of goal with 2 goals and a point to his name going in at half time.

2nd half started and there was no rest for the wicked as our lads piled on the pressure with Marc Mc Bride and Donal Tierney organising the play in both half’s of the field to get Dermott Gleeson onto the ball who caused mayhem when running at them. Special mention has to be said to the old fogey Paul hand was back in nets for the day and ended up saving a penalty and put in a fantastic performance.

Scorer’s, Ryan Sherlock (3-1), Dermott Gleeson (0-5,4 f’s), Micky Tierney (1-2,0-1 f’s) Ronan Cassidy (0-1)

Final Score Eire og4-10 Drumhowan 1-2.

Junior b’s

Our reserves kept their 100% record intact with a brilliant away win against Clones. In a game that was going to the wire it was our own lads that showed some serious determination to get 2 points from a game that we played with 14 men for most of the game after Pauric McKenna was shown his traditional marching orders! Patrick Croarkin was joined with Aidan Leonard upfront and the duo were too much to handle as they both found the back of the net in the first half. As the game came to the closing stages a fantastic run by Francie McMahon left him dragged down inside the penalty area to leave it down to Donal Tierney to keep the cool head and finish from the black spot. This leaves our reserves with 4 wins out of 4 and sit top of the league.

Scoil Mhuire, Magherarney 50th Birthday Celebrations

Scoil Mhuire Magherarney is celebrating 50 years on its current site as a primary school serving the area of Smithborough and Magherarney. The Board of Management and the school’s Parents Association are currently planning a small event which will be held on Saturday May 28th at 3pm to mark this special moment in time. We are planning to hold the event in late May. As part of the event we would like to have a display in the school of old roll books etc. but also photographs. Therefore we are putting out an appeal to the community if anyone has any photographs from the school over the past 50 years we would love to get a copy. We would ask that they be left into the school with the school secretary whereupon they will be scanned and the original returned to the owner or scanned and emailed to the school at info@magherarneyns.com So get searching those cupboards and spread the word to any past pupils as the more photographs we have the more memories that will be evoked for everyone.
