Emmets Lotto! The draw for a jackpot of €5600 was held in the Emmet Centre on Monday night when the numbers drawn were 10, 16, 22 and 28. There were no matching numbers so the Jackpot rises to €5700 this week. However the following are the “Keep it Local Vouchers” €50 Michael Small; €20 Stephen Murnaghan €20 Derek Donnelly €10 Bob Tynan. Thanks to the sellers on Saturday night and also to the people that have helped the club through their generosity.

Credit Union Senior League!   Three promising performances in the Senior League had the Emmet supporters in a positive mood but Sunday’s simplistic defeat by Doohamlet has cast a shadow over those encouraging signs of progress; the ability to compete in the top flight has at this moment thrown down a marker to the team as to where there’re presently at and where there’re they are going! No comfort can be extracted from this particular game; nothing went right on the day; the team weren’t tuned in; the real Emmets didn’t turn up; a bad day at the office; too many mistakes etc; not my comments but of those who attended the match in anticipation of at least of a decent contest! I was unable to attend the match but text messages went something like this! (17.11 pm) A point each after 10 minutes: (17.16pm) Four points to one point – Doohamlet: 17.20 Four points to three points – Doohamlet: (17.21pm) One goal and four points to three points – Doohamlet: (17.27pm) One goal and four points to five points – Doohamlet: (17.28pm) Two goals and four points to five points – Doohamlet: (17.33pm) Two goals and five points to five points – half time –Doohamlet: (17.49pm) two and seven points to seven points – Doohamlet: (17.54pm) Three goals and six points to seven points – Doohamlet: (18.02pm) four goals and eight points to seven points – Doohamlet: (18.17pm) four goals and twelve points to seven points – final score- Doohamlet: Disappointment all round with the outcome of the game  but with time on our side and everyone available for selection; an injury free run and a settled team; this result will just be a bad memory! Emmets; Robbie Honney; Conor Duffy; Killian Cromwell; Conor McEneaney; David Eakin; Gary McEneaney; Aaron Murray; Niall Loughman; James Conlon; Kieran Ward; Paddy Larney: Kevin O’Hanlon; Peter O’Hanlon; Stephen Gollogly; Aaron Jones: Substitutes Sean Downey and Ryan Carolan:

Under Sixteen Team! Emmet’s under-sixteen team went to Aughnamullen during the week to play the homesters who are unbeaten in the League. A whirlwind start saw Aughnamullen swarm into a five-point lead early on. The Emmets were slow starters but gradually came into the fray when Andrew Moore scored a great goal after good pressure brought its reward. However the Aughnamullen attack found loads of space and soon the goal was cancelled out; indeed the Lough Egish team added five more points before the break while Emmets could only muster a single point from Oran Brady but it was not for the want of trying as they missed some good opportunities including a goal chance when Donnach Swinburne’s shot was brilliantly save by the opposition goalkeeper. As it was the half time score stood at 1-10 to 1-01in favour or Aughnamullen and the Emmets had a hill to climb. The gap increased by a further point immediately after the resumption of play however a selective range of points from Oran Brady, Thaidh O’Callaghan, Donnach Swinburne and Tiarnan McCourt along with some splendid football from the Emmets soon had Aughnamullen looking over their shoulders. Robbie McCluskey saved a penalty and the rebound in style. Still playing steady football the chance to close the gap even further was spoiled by four wides on the trot but Aughnamullen got over the blip to finish stronger and added another goal to leave the score Sarsfields 2-18 Emmets 1-12.  Had the first half produced more scores from the Emmets; then things might have been different!

Reserve Team! Emmets travelled to Killanny short fourteen players that had togged out in the opening game of the Reserve League; most were sitting exams and others were injured! Regrettably the club weren’t assisted or facilitated to change the fixture; however it was great to see additional young players take up the gauntlet to enable Emmets to field a team and fulfil the fixture and we say to them well done and thanks. As for the game itself; it was good to see the huge effort put in on the pitch from both experience and inexperienced players for the “wearin’ of the green” In the end Killanny were too strong and the physical difference between the teams was evident but having said that the Emmets gave as good as they got and played well especially in the second half; when they held their own; credit is due to everyone for playing to the very end. The panel of players included in alphabetical order; Bashford (Kevin) Carolan (Ryan) Conlon (John G) Cromwell (Richard) Donnelly (Luke) Downey (Jason) Eakin (David) Gollogly (Ronan) Hughes (Ronan) Jones (Gearóid) Marron (Padraig) Marron (Oisin) McCluskey (Adrian) McEneaney (Blane) Ogle (Jack) Rafferty (Padraig)

Minor Team! Meanwhile; the minor team made good the long journey to Currin to play Patrick Emmets in the Minor League (Division 2) and came home with a facile victory for their second win from their two games which keeps them at the helm of affairs in their division; one point behind leaders Killanny with a game in hand! The final score was Carrickmacross Emmets 5-16 Patrick Emmets 2-09:
