Credit Union Senior League! Once again the home side had the opposition under threat when the sides were level nearing the end of the game but they couldn’t get their noses in front when it mattered most and Clontibret took the two points from Emmet Park in an entertaining game. First attack fell to the Emmets while the first point fell to Clontibret in the opening exchanges. A wide apiece followed before Carrick lofted a high ball that broke with no takers to capitalise. Three points in succession from free-kicks gave the O’Neills the perfect start however Ciaran Ward cutting in from the left scored the Emmets opener from a tight angle. Kevin O’Hanlon hit the post from close-in but the ball rebounded to safety. Clontibret scored their fifth point from play but Paddy Larney responded with a nice point from thirty metres. Clontibret made 0-06 to 0-02 from play but Stephen Gollogly pointed a free-kick as a more confident Emmets looked dangerous on the break. Another free-kick for Clontibret was converted by Conor McManus but James Conlon’s strength carried him through to post an inspiring point. Clontibret missed a free-kick and probably a goal but Robbie Honney was brilliant on two occasions. Clontibret scored a well-worked point but once again the Emmets were denied a score; firstly by the cross-bar and then by the post! It was up to Stephen Gollogly to end the half with a point from a free kick to leave the interval score O’Neills 0-08 Emmets 0-05: The second half commenced with a wide each before Stephen Gollogly pointed from play. Ciaran Ward was fouled and Stephen Gollogly pointed the resulting free-kick. Jamie Guinan cleared two vital balls one from the goal line and Stephen Gollogly; as busy as ever; pointed from play at the other end to level the match. Clontibret pulled three points clear with a point from play and two from free-kicks but when Niall Loughman found Kevin O’Hanlon he had only one idea and he brought the match level with a low shot to the Clontibret net. The visitors hit three wides under pressure while Ciaran Ward had a great chanced blocked in front of goal. A Stephen Gollogly free-kick fell short of target while a Clontibret free-kick fell over the bar to edge them ahead 0-12 to 1-08. Once again Stephen Gollogly pointed a rasper that was possibly a goal chance; a wide apiece followed but Emmets were guilty of two short attempts in an effort to take the lead. As it was they were caught for two-points on the counter-attack; both from play. With time running out Kevin O’Hanlon was unceremoniously pulled back; going through and Stephen Gollogly pointed the free-kick. The last minute and the last say belonged to Clontibret when Conor McManus had hit a forty-five that sailed over the bar! Final Score; O’Neills 0-15 Emmets 1-10
Under-Sixteen League! Scotstown made the evening journey to Emmet Park and enjoyed a victory over the Emmets under-sixteen team. The early loss of three goals in the first half had a telling effect on the final outcome. The Emmets started well with two points but as in their first game they started to leak crucial goals with the result that they made life difficult for themselves but there was all to play for in the second half as the visitors carried a two-point lead at the interval with the score standing at 3-02 to 1-06. The resumption of play set the Emmets further back when a goal and a point were conceded within minutes to leave a six-point difference. However; after a good spell of pressure the Emmets got a goal and a point of their own to improve matters greatly. The game was flat out and credit to all the players they produced some very entertaining stuff! Scotstown increased the by a point from play but soon there was drama as Emmets were awarded a penalty for a foot block but the Scotstown goalkeeper saved low at the town end. Then we had a series of wides; three to the Emmets and two to Scotstown; before two long range points of quality stretched the lead for Scotstown to five points. Emmets didn’t give up; they hit the post and another good save from the Scotstown goalkeeper was tipped round the post for a forty five. The resulting kick was taken short and the Emmets gained a point from play but misused chances from free-kicks and good Scotstown defending took its toll on the home side. Scotstown had the last say with a late goal on the stroke of full time but a brave battle from the Emmets ended in defeat by 5-06 to 2-08.
