Minor Team! It was all go from Inniskeen for the first ten minutes when the Emmets played the Grattans in the opening round of the Minor League on Sunday evening at Emmet Park. Their first four attacks yielded 1-01 before Ryan O’Connor pointed with his left foot. Both sides traded points from play but the Emmets got another set-back when the visitors pounce for their second goal. Ryan O’Connor saw his goal effort saved on the line but points from Tadgh O’Callaghan and Dylan Ward narrowed the gap. Inniskeen fought back with a point from play before Tadgh netted for the Emmets with a great goal from a slight angle. A wide apiece ensued as the play approached the halfway mark but there was enough time for Grattans to point a free-kick to leave them 2-04 to 1-04 to the good: The second period wasn’t on too long and four points by the Emmets; all from play; edged them ahead. Carrick were standing their ground late on and some great defensive work protected a two-point lead as the game went well into added time. However Karl McMenamin on one of his strong runs found the energy to strike a beautiful point just before the final whistle. Senior Team! Monaghan Harps came to Emmet Park on Saturday evening. The game turned out to an interesting and competitive game and Emmet’s supporters were of the opinion that it was a match that deserved at least a draw. Stephen Gollogly pointed a free-kick when James Conlon was fouled; which was followed by a point from play by Conor McEneaney. The next spell belonged to the Harps! Four points on the trot put the visitors in control. Aaron Jones was fouled and Stephen Gollogly pointed before the Harp’s added a point from play. Stephen Gollogly added his third free-kick; Ryan Carolan was on the end of a good move and took a point to level affairs! However disaster struck; failure to deal with a high ball by the Emmets resulted in the ball been slotted home for a goal on the stroke of half time. (1-05 to 0-05) The second half commenced and the Harps got their easiest point of the game to extend their lead. Sean Downey pulled a point back and Stephen Gollogly pulled another with a free-kick. The same player popped his fifth free-kick over the bar soon to be followed by his sixth. The scoring was level at this point and prominence was with the Emmets although passing errors were soon punished by Harps with a good point. Robbie Honney saved further calamity with an inspiring save. A crucial free-kick failed to make it for the Emmets. The visitors stormed up the field for two points from play. Stephen Gollogly got his seventh free-kick but try as they may the home side could not break down the protective Harps rear-guard and they finished off the game with a final point from play!
