Monaghan hit an unanswered 1-10 in the second half of this Eirgrid Ulster U-21 Football Championship quarter-final to put Fermanagh to the sword in Inniskeen on Wednesday night. Monaghan were 0-5 to 0-0 up after 20 minutes and although they saw their lead cut to two by half-time, they totally dominated from there on, with Fermanagh’s challenge faltering after their captain Eoin McManus was sent off in the 43rd minute. Barry McGinn hit 1-5 for Monaghan, while Dessie Ward, Conor McCarthy and substitute Adam Treanor all chipped in with three points each as the hosts ran up a total of 1-12 from play.
Armagh, who had an even more comprehensive win over Down, will be Monaghan’s semi-final opponents at a neutral venue on Wednesday, March 30.
