Annual Social & Presentation Night

Do you like having fun? Do you like celebrating? Do you enjoy parties? Well, if the answer is yes to any of those questions then get ready for the BIGGEST event of the year, our annual social & presentation night, which takes place on Saturday 20th February in the Hillgrove Hotel. Taking centre stage will be our victorious junior championship team that won the Packie Boylan Cup and the Paul Kerr Cup. These nights only come round once in a lifetime so make sure you get your tickets and experience this memorable night first hand. The night will also include other presentations as we honour the latest inductee into our Hall of Fame and awards will also be presented to our senior, reserve and minor players of the year. So folks, make sure you don’t miss out and make a note in your dairy Saturday 29th February. Admission is by ticket only and tickets can be purchased from any committee member and we look forward to meeting you and your friends to join us in one hell of a PARTY.

Juvenile Meeting

Last Wednesday (27th January) we held our first juvenile meeting of the year which basically was a kick-off meeting to get things up and running again. The night was organised by our Youth Officer, Sharon Fox, who outlined her aims and objectives for the underage structures. Our juvenile players are the future of the club and creating the proper underage structures to develop these players is extremely important. The club caters for boys aged 6 and over and girls aged 6 to 12 who want to learn the basic skills of football. Our aim is to ensure that all kids have fun to enable them gain confidence, to teach them the skills of the game to show them respect while allowing them to participate in a team environment and let them have excitement so that they can develop and grow  into good footballers over time. There was a decent turnout from parents and existing coaches & mentors who expressed an interest to continue their roles. Under current GAA rules and regulations everyone involved with underage teams must have a Child Protection Certificate, have a Foundation Level coaching qualification and must be Garda Vetted.  As a club we need three people over each  team so if anybody is interested in helping out then can you please contact our youth officer Sharon Fox 086-6022919 as soon as possible because our juvenile committee need to finalise mentors. Remember, you do not have to be an expert and you will be instructed by an experienced coach, but please come forward and volunteer. You may be able to spare one hour on a Saturday morning or one evening per week to supervise at training sessions, or maybe at a game. Whatever you can do please do come forward and offer your help as we need as many people as possible.

Club Registration Night

Our club Registration night will take place on Monday 8th February starting at 7pm in St. Mary’s Hall. All underage players including under 8′s, 10′s, 12′s, 14′s, 16′s and 18′s must register and pay their club membership. All players and parents will be expected to turn up and indeed any new parents and players are also very welcome to attend. It is important to remember that all juvenile players must be registered to train or play any games to be covered under the GAA insurance scheme. We will also be accepting adult membership on the night and club registrar Pat Brannigan will be present and will gladly accept your annual subscription which is for adults €20 with all juveniles under the age of 18 costing €5 and any student that can provide a valid student card the membership fee is €5.

Child Protection Courses

A second course will take place on Thursday 18th February, between 7 to 10pm. Venue to be decided. All coaches who are working with young people must have completed their child protection course and this should be repeated every THREE years. This includes all coaches, committee members, referees, groundsmen, bus drivers and anyone else who may have direct contact with children. As discussed at last Youth Forum, one of the initiatives for 2016 from Monaghan GAA is that all names of managers, coaches and first aiders must be forwarded on in advance of the playing season for verification of completion of Garda vetting and child protection courses. Anyone who cannot demonstrate that they have successfully completed both of these will be asked to remove themselves from any participation in our juvenile activities. Courses are open to all members of the association, mens football, ladies football, camogie and handball. Further courses will be delivered subject to demand. The challenge now is for all groups and interested people to come together once again to put on an amazing fun show packed full of entertainment. We all need to smile and have a laugh and there’s no doubt that everyone in the community benefits from giving a little back and creating a feel-good factor into the bargain.
