Allianz National Football League Division One
Monaghan 0-13 Down 0-11 7/2/16
Monaghan held on to make it two wins from two in the Allianz Football League Division One in a competitive encounter against Down in Clones on Sunday. After a slow start, Monaghan burst to life with six points between the 17th and 24th minutes to take charge (going in 0-9 to 0-6 ahead at half-time) but they had to work hard to hold off a spirited late charge by Down, which took this game down to the wire. An experienced Monaghan team showed two changes from the win over Roscommon, with Conor Boyle and Ryan McAnespie starting in place of Ryan Wylie and Dessie Mone, who later came on as substitutes, along with Kieran Hughes, who was making his first county appearance of 2016.
Monaghan had nine scorers in all as they moved on to four points ahead of a three-week break before NFL action resumes with a Croke Park clash with Dublin on Saturday, February 27.
