Ulster Final – Here We Come!
There are big days, then there are of course bigger days and this Sunday when our senior footballers travel to the Athletic Grounds, Armagh to play Faughanvale in the Ulster Junior Football Club Championship Final it will be a massive day for our little club. There is a lot of excitement around the club, our village and indeed the wider community with both young and old extending their best wishes. It’s a brilliant feeling to get there and be competing on the big day but (there’s always a but!) we have to give a good account of ourselves over the sixty minutes because we know there’s nothing won yet. We play the Derry champions, Faughanvale, who have had a remarkable run to the final. They defeated the Tyrone champions (Brackaville) in the quarter-final and looked highly impressive against the Cavan champions (Templeport) in the semi-final. They are a formidable outfit and will definitely provide a tough challenge for the team. However, the lads are well capable of doing it but the bottom line is they will have to perform and produce their best football if they are to get across the line. They have performed well in the competition to date, albeit a few blips here and there, so let’s hope this Sunday they will stand up, give an honest performance, work hard for each other and play as a team. I would like to extend my best wishes Mickey, Jimmy & Pascal and all the players. Good luck lads, do the best you can and leave everything out on the pitch, empty the tank and as I have been saying leave the field with ‘no regrets’. If you do that then hopefully that will be good enough come Sunday evening. Good Luck Lads you have the ability now go out and do yourselves, your family, your club and your county proud. Come on ROCK.
Your Support Counts
The last two months have really been busy times for the club with games coming fast and thick…but I’m not going to complain, its great to be playing in the month of November! This Sunday is another big day as we travel to the Athletic Grounds, Armagh to take on Faughanvale (Derry). The game has a throw-in of 1.15pm and is the curtain raiser to the Ulster Senior Football Club Championship Final between Crossmaglen v Scotstown at 3pm. It promises to be another exciting encounter and once again I would appeal to all our club members and supporters to get behind the team. Your support to date has been absolutely amazing and we have been overwhelmed with the level of support and goodwill. The constant positive feedback has rubbed off on the players and given them that extra bit of oomph to get across the finish line. So come on everybody, let’s get behind the lads, show your colours with pride and cheer on the lads to achieve something really special.
Good Luck Scotstown
This Sunday is also a big day for the Scotstown GAA club who play Crossmaglen in the Ulster Senior Football Club Championship Final. On behalf of the Rockcorry GAA club I would like to extend my best wishes and good luck to all the players and the team management. We will be there watching you and cheering you on all the way to the finish line and hopefully it will be a memorable day for Monaghan football. Good Luck to everyone involved.
Annual General Meeting
The annual general meeting will take place on Sunday 13th December in the club rooms at 4.00pm. Nomination forms will be circulated to all club members shortly and should be returned to club secretary Martina McKeown before the required date. A few club officers have decided that they are not seeking re-election so there is plenty opportunity for new people to step up and get involved. Our annual general meeting is the most important meeting of the year and ALL club members are invited to attend in order to reflect on the last twelve months and to look ahead for the upcoming year. It is also a time to elect a new management committee and to communicate with our members about how the club is functioning. A major challenge facing the club is that not enough people are getting involved at committee level and the message is loud and clear that we need new faces, we need new blood on board to bring forward new ideas, new energy, new people with fresh thoughts, new workers with different concepts and new members with different viewpoints…BE THAT PERSON AND GET INVOLVED.
Monaghan GAA Awards Night
Monaghan County Board have announced the date for the 2015 Awards night. It will take place on Friday 22nd January 2016 in the Hillgrove Hotel, Monaghan.
