Eurotech Junior Football League Final
I was a big fan of the classic TV programme Catchphrase and there motto was literally “say what you see”. When our senior footballers played Killanny last Sunday 8th November in the Eurotech junior football league final I saw a far more hungrier Killanny side who were absolutely the better team, on the day, and they secured the victory on a score-line Rockcorry 1-5 Killanny 2-7 to capture the Dr. Ward Cup and on behalf of the Rockcorry GAA club I congratulate them on their achievement. We have seen a lot of good performances from the team in recent weeks but obviously last Sunday’s was disappointing and lacklustre. A return of only two points during the second half was a poor reflection and way below our expectations. Our attack was pedestrian, our direct running was absent, our freshness was stale and quite frankly we were second best and were pushed aside in the tackles, far too easily, and that boils down to attitude and hunger. Killanny, on the other hand, were excellent on the day and showed savage hunger. They played like men possessed, applied relentless pressure and basically made things happen rather than wishing things will happen! Speedy Recovery
On behalf of everyone at the club I would like to extend our best wishes to Lorcan Smyth and wish him a speedy recovery after he picked up an injury during the Eurotech Junior Football League Final last Sunday.
Ulster Club Championship Semi-Final
As the old saying goes time stands still for none of us and it’s time to consign our focus to this Sunday’s clash against Glasdrumman (Down). The game takes place this Sunday at the Athletic Grounds, Armagh and throw-in time is 12.45pm. It’s a double header fixture with the Intermediate Champions Doohamlet taking on Loughinisland at 2.30pm. Lads, you have an opportunity to put things right this weekend and create something very special. The prospect of playing in an Ulster Final should certainly whet your appetite and you should not be lacking in motivation. Every player needs to stand up to the plate and burst their gut this week and show leadership which was sadly lacking last Sunday. You have the ability lads but you have to show it on the playing field! This promises to be another exciting encounter so come on everybody get behind the team and get those green jerseys on, get those green & white flags out and make the trip to the Athletic Grounds, Armagh and show your support for the team in this massive game. Good luck lads, leave everything out on the pitch, empty the tank as they say and have no regrets. If you do that then hopefully that will be good enough come Sunday evening. Good Luck Lads.

On behalf of everyone at the Rockcorry GAA club I would like to extend a massive well done and congratulations to Conor McManus who collected an All Star Award at the ceremony last Friday night. It is a great achievement and is the perfect end to a wonderful year. Well done Conor, very much deserved.
Scor na nOg County Final
The Scor na nOg County Final takes place this Saturday 14th November in the Seán Mac Diarmada Complex in Threemilehouse starting at 6pm. We have a number of different acts taking part and on behalf of the club I would like to wish all the participants good luck and if you are able to attend please travel to support and encourage the kids.
Child Protection Course
Monaghan GAA are running two child protection courses in November. One on Wednesday 18th between 7pm to 10pm in Cloghan and the second is on 25th November between 7pm to 10pm. Please note that in 2016 no manager, coach or first aider will be allowed to be involved in any team where there are children under 18 years of age participating unless they have completed their child protection course and have also completed their Garda vetting. Anyone who did their child protection more than four years ago should also have their child protection renewed. Garda vetting forms are available on the Monaghan GAA website. Please contact myself at 086-1041165 or pro.rockcorry.monaghan@gaa.ie if you want to attend the course.
Annual General Meeting
With the year now over for the underage teams I would encourage all parents of children involved in the club to attend our upcoming Annual General Meeting which has been fixed for Sunday 13th December. It is very important to get new faces, new blood, new perspectives and new ideas within the club to ensure that we can provide the very best of everything or anything for the kids. This is your club and you are always welcome.
Monaghan Masters
I want to say hard luck to the Monaghan Masters team who unfortunately lost out to Westmeath last Saturday 7th November in the All Ireland Shield Final. The lads gave a great account of themselves and were in a really good position heading into the closing minutes of the match but Westmeath had a freak ending to claim the title. To lose in that fashion must be absolute agony for the lads but they can all hold their heads high with their performance as they displayed great spirit and as Johnny Logan always said “what’s another year”!
