We travelled to Breffni Park on Sunday last to take on Cavan champions Ballyhaise. This was a titantic battle right from the start. We opened the scoring with a wonderful point by Barry Mc Ginn, Ballyhaise responded back with a pointed free, Barry Mc Ginn registered another point and Ciaran Mc Manus gave us a 2 point advantage with 11 minutes gone. Ballyhaise registered the next 3 scores, on the stroke of half time Barry McGinn got another from play to leave it 0-4 a piece at half time. Straight from the throw in of the second half Ballyhaise got there noises ahead again with a pointed free, Barry Mc Bennett got us back on level terms again with 11 minutes gone we were down to 14 men with the dismissal of Niall Connolly. Ballyhaise registered another point but this is when Doohamlet showed pure grit and determination, a Barry Mc Bennett point got us back on level terms again. A Barry Mc Ginn point with 15 minutes gone gave us the lead, another Barry Mc Bennett point with 20 minutes gone gave us a 2 point advantage with 3 minutes left, a goal by Ballyhaise’s David Brady gave them the lead but we didnt lie down with time almost up a point by Barry Mc Bennett meant this game was going to extra time. A blistering start to extra time by Doohamet, points by Barry Mc Ginn, Paul Mc Ardle and Jamie Walshe gave us a 4 point advantage. The second half Ballyhaise had to throw everything at us, they registered 3 pointed frees and we stood firm at the back to keep it tight to not concede another goal. A point by Barry Mc Ginn with a minute left gave us a 2 point lead and eventually we heard the final whistle to leave us winners on a scoreline of Doohamlet 0-15 Ballyhaise 1-10.
