Minors:
Last Sunday fortnight was to be a very important day in the lives of our Minor players as they took on Truagh in the Minor County Final, in the showpiece event in Clones on County Final Day. Donaghmoyne came in to the game with a degree of confidence folllowing their league final win over Magheracloone a few weeks previous but they knew they would have their work cut out against a good Truagh team if they wanted to take home the spoils. The game started off pretty open with both sides swapping scores at both ends and it was to continue in this manner. In the second quarter however Donaghmoyne enjoyed a good period as they went on to open up a 4 point gap on the opposition. After the restart they continued that dominance to extend that lead even further. But Truagh to their credit stuck to the task and clawed back at that lead. That could also have been guilty of being pretty wasteful in front of goal and if that hadn’t to be the case then this could have been a different story. But this was to be Donaghmoynes day as the lads went on to close out the win and at full time Donaghmoyne were crowned Champions. Congratulations to all the players and management on being crowned County Champions! This is a remarkable achievement for this group of players as not only have they defended their County Championship Title without losing a game, they have also completed a League and Championship Double for the third year in a row. Congratulations once again to all involved, promising times ahead no doubt for this group of players!
U12s:
Last Saturday morning our U12 team travelled to Mullagh in County Cavan to take part in a prestigous invitational tournament. This was a great chance for our young players to test themselves against strong opposition from other counties. The day started off really well with three wins from as many matches in their group against Baileborough, Ballymun Kickhams and the host club Mullagh. This meant the lads qualified for the cup quarter final but unfortunately they were unable to reach the heights that they produced in the group. This left them in a shield semi final which they won, but unfortunately tired legs showed in the final and the lads were unable to take home the silverwear. This however will be looked upon as a great experience for both players and managers alike and hopefully they will have learned something that they can carry forward with them for next season. That was the last outing our U12s will have for the season, no doubt it’s a season they will all remember after Division One League win a few months back. Well done to all the players and management, enjoy the break and we look forward to seeing yous all back for next seasons preparations.
