Clontibret Camogie Notes

By Majella Boyd Wed 4th Nov

Important news this week in relation to two important courses taking place shortly under the auspices of Monaghan GAA, relating to Child Protection. A choice of two dates is offered, in Cloghan:

Wed November 18 from 7- 10pm Wed November 25 from 7 – 10pm.

It is only necessary to attend one of these evening events. The cost for the course is €10. As previously stated Child Protection is a legal requirement for all Executive members, those coaching teams where minors are involved, those transporting or having any direct contact with minor/underage players/members. The course only needs to be completed once every 3 years. Please indicate as soon as possible which night you wish to attend as the course is being offered to all codes therefore places will fill up rapidly.

The second event, Monaghan GAA Coaching Conference, takes place this Saturday, November 7, in Our Lady’s Castleblayney.

Places on the Conference are filling up fast, but those wishing to attend can fill out the application form and get it into the Monaghan Coaching Office by Wednesday. The application form is downloadable from Monaghan GAA website. (Coaching and Development link)

The conference is targeting all club coaches from Juvenile to senior level and anybody with an interest in coaching and promoting Gaelic Games. The cost is €15 per person or €50 for a group 4.

This year the theme of the conference is “Successful clubs – by chance or by design” so all the workshops and presentations will have a relevance to developing our clubs and club coaches. This year ’s conference will be both practical and theory based, some will have a focus on football or hurling/camogie only but the majority of the workshops/presentations can be transferable across both

codes.
To name but a few, the presenters include; Diarmaid Marsden (Club Coaching and Games Development

Officer Ulster GAA), Oisin McConville (former Crossmaglen and Armagh senior player), Micheal Glover (Ulster Regional Development Hurling Officer) and Ryan Porter (Monaghan Senior Team Coach).

There will also be a Question & Answers session at the end of the conference which will involve County Senior Manager Malachy O’Rourke, County Senior Footballers Dick Clerkin and Conor McManus, former

All Star Eugene ‘Nudie’ Hughes, County Hurling Manager Trevor Hilliard and County Senior Hurler Pauric Dowdall.

A more convivial event, and hopefully one with a better gender balance, is the forthcoming Annual Ulster Camogie Awards Lunch which takes place on Saturday 21st November in Kelly’s Inn Garvaghey, Co

Tyrone, from 12.00 noon. Each club has received nomination forms seeking nominations for Ulster senior, junior and minor player along with administrator, coach/manager, PRO and volunteer awards. These must be returned to the Ulster Administrator by this Friday, so thinking caps on folks!!

Finally, every good wish to O Neill Shamrocks who play the Derry champions, Steelstown, in the Ulster

Junior Club championship final on Sunday coming, Nov 8, in Killyclogher (Tyrone) at 1pm. This is a curtain-raiser to the Intermediate final between Donaghmoyne (B) and Glenelly (Tyrone) at 2.30.
