On Thursday 8th of October, Monaghan Coaching and Games organised a 7 aside U15 Super Touch Blitz.
On the night we had 2 groups (Group A had 5 teams, Group B had 4 teams). All teams played at least 3 games. The group stages were very close and competitive. Inniskeen topped Group 1, while Aughnamullen topped Group 2 just ahead of Castleblayney.
The Rules for the blitz are slightly different to what the teams are used to, with a different scoring system in operation. All goals are worth 1 point but any point scored outside the 30m scoring zone is worth 3 points. This rule is to encourage long range shooting and there were some terrific 3 point scores last night, which was great to see
The final was a very close and entertaining game between Aughnamullen and Inniskeen. Aughnamullen led by 5 at half time with Tiernan Duffy scoring some great 3 pointers. Inniskeen got off to a very good start in the second half as Andrew Woods scored two 3 pointers within the first two minutes, putting Inniskeen 1 up. Both teams exchanged points but when Andrew Woods scored his third 3 pointer of the game, it left Inniskeen 5 up with 2 minutes to go. Aughnmullen did respond with 2 points but Inniskeen ran out 18 – 15 winners.
We would like to thank the clubs that took part in the blitz. Also a big thank you to the 4 referees that officiated at the blitz; Fintan Finnegan, Anthony Marron, Ciaran Mulligan and Barry Grimley.
The next club blitz, a U13 club 7 aside super touch blitz, takes place in Cloghan on Thursday 15th October
