Eurotech Junior Football League
Our senior footballers were forced to dig very deep last Sunday (30th August) when they played Sean McDermott’s at Threemilehouse in the Eurotech junior football league campaign. After the disappointing performance in the last league outing we went into this game looking to bounce right back and get back onto the winning track. In what proved to be a very tense and hard fought encounter the lads worked extremely hard throughout the game and displayed courageous battling qualities, and in fairness they had to because Sean McDermott’s pushed us all the way. While the lads weren’t at their best they showed great character and spirit, when they had to, to grind out a hard earned but richly deserved victory on a score-line Sean McDermott’s 0-10 Rockcorry 1-12. Moving forward we need approach all games with the same desire, hunger and drive because as the old saying goes “hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard”. Well done lads and keep up the good work.

Community Sports Day
The summer holidays are nearly over and that means it’s the perfect time of the year to have a Family Fun Sports Day before all the kids go back to school….Yip-pee. A sports day is great craic and we have compiled a list of excellent fun games, activity & entertainment for you and your children and we guarantee you will have loads of fun. We have joined forced with the Parents Association of Scoil Mhuire to host a family fun sports day that will bring enjoyment to both young and old. It all takes place at Pairc Naomh Mhuire on Sunday 6th September between 2pm until 6pm and we welcome all parents and kids to join us for a great day’s craic. Both committees have been busy planning a host of games and activities and there will be a huge array of novelty games to entertain the kids and parents including all the traditional races, penalties, golfing, hurling wall challenge, throw the wellie, clothes line challenge, skittles, soak your coach, face painting and off course what would a sports day be without the customary Ice-cream! Later in the evening if you get a little bit hungry then please don’t ignore your cravings and round off a great day by treating yourself to a lovely juicy burger at our Barbeque stall. So let’s join together on Sunday 6th September and let’s create a fantastic sports day that everyone within our community and surrounding parishes can join in and have some with family and friends.

On Saturday 12th September the under 8 footballers will play their last go gamesblitz when they travel to Doohamlet and on Saturday 26th September the under 10 footballers will play their last go games blitz when they also travel to Doohamlet.
Under 8 Go Games Blitz
A very enjoyable and exciting Go Games was held last Saturday 29th August when our under 8 footballers travelled to Clones to take part in an all-county go games blitz. This was once again a very enjoyable and successful blitz campaign and the lovely weather conditions added to the excitement with all the children from various clubs across the county having fun and displaying plenty of enthusiasm. It was wonderful to see a good turnout of parents there to support and encourage the children and a special word of mention to the hard working coaches & mentors of all the clubs who freely give up their time voluntarily on a Saturday morning to help organise and look after the future players of the club. Well done everyone and we look forward to the next blitz with huge excitement and anticipation.
Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 12 Shield Final
I know it’s a complete cliché but when things are slipping and not going you’re way they just seem to have a habit of continuing to go wrong! I’m not complaining or looking for excuses because when our under twelve footballers played Aughnamullen in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg Division Shield Final last Saturday 29th August nothing went right for them but having said all that I cannot take anything away from the performance of Aughnamullen who were totally, unquestionably, undeniably the better team on the day and they secured a comfortable victory to claim the shield title. The match was played at Blackhill in perfect weather conditions with a good surface underfoot and with glorious sunshine beaming down across the pitch. The game had a lively start and Aughnamullen raced out of the blocks and stormed into a commanding lead scoring five goals that really knocked the stuffing out of our players. We fought back with some lovely scores from Lee McCollum, Lee Hall and Josh Brannigan but after the first twenty minutes Aughnamullen enjoyed a comfortable fifteen point lead, leading by 1-2 to 5-3. When play resumed our players worked hard to reduce the deficit but Aughnamullen continued to display some resilient defending and restricted our players to only two goals (Lee Hall & James O’Brien). Aughnamullen, on the other hand, notched over an additional 2-3 to seal the victory on a final score-line Rockcorry 3-2 Aughnamullen 7-6 and on behalf of the Rockcorry GAA club I would like to pass on our congratulations to them on their wonderful win. Hard luck boys and girls, sadly, the result did not go in your favour but if you continue to show that type of passion and commitment the results will come. That concludes the football season for another year, for this set of players, so on behalf of the club I would like to sincerely thank the management team of Paul McCormick and Conor Brannigan for all their efforts and the time they devoted to a demanding job. Also many thanks to Marian Larmer for carrying out the first aid duties throughout the year.
Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 14 Semi-Final
This weekend our attention focuses on the under 14 footballers who have qualified for the semi-final of their division 5 league competition. The semi-final has been fixed for Saturday 5th September and they take on Patrick Emetts at Scotshouse and throw-in time is 12 noon.
